The present invention generally to a multimode terminal (10) including a wireless local area network (WLAN) system (20) and a Bluetooth system (30) that avoids radio interference between the two systems by collaborative coexistence methods that include time -sharing, combined frequency and time -sharing, and forward-looking combined frequency and time-sharing between the WLAN system and the Bluetooth system. The coexistent multimode terminal and the method of coexistence provide WLAN transmissions/receptions that are not impacted when there is no Bluetooth traffic, Bluetooth transmissions/receptions that are not impacted when there is no WLAN traffic, Bluetooth and WLAN transmissions/ receptions that are provided fair access to the medium when both Bluetooth and WLAN traffic are present, and high priority Bluetooth traffic, for example, voice traffic, that has priority over non-high priority WLAN traffic.

Coexistent bluetooth and wireless local area networks in a multimode terminal and method thereof

The present invention provides a system for providing simultaneous operation of disparate wireless telecommunication technologies within a single device (102). The device comprises a plurality of antennas (112, 114). The system provides an antenna switching function (116) communicatively coupled to the plurality of antennas. A first wireless telecommunications function (104) is communicatively coupled to the antenna switching function, as is a second wireless telecommunications function (106). The system provides an arbitration function (118) communicatively coupled to the antenna switching function and the first and second wireless telecommunications functions. A defined prioritization scheme is provided. The arbitration function operates to control access to the plurality of antennas by the first and second wireless telecommunications functions according to the defined prioritization scheme.

System for operational coexistence of wireless communication technologies

A horizontally polarized antenna array allows for the efficient distribution of RF energy into a communications environment through selectable antenna elements and redirectors that create a particular radiation pattern such as a substantially omnidirectional radiation pattern. In conjunction with a vertically polarized array, a particular high-gain wireless environment may be created such that one environment does not interfere with other nearby wireless environments and avoids interference created by those other environments. Lower gain patterns may also be created by using particular configurations of a horizontal and/or vertical antenna array. In a preferred embodiment, the antenna systems disclosed herein are utilized in a multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) wireless environment.

A device for a wireless RF link to a remote receiving device can radiate at different radiation patterns in response to detecting a change in the device position. As the device is moved, displaced, or re-positioned, a position sensor in the device detects the change in position and provides position information to a processor. The processor receives the position information from the position sensor, selects an antenna configuration and physical data rate based on the position information, and provides an RF signal associated with the selected antenna configuration through the antenna elements of the selected antenna configuration.

A multi-antenna station with distributed antennas and capable of providing good performance for terminals distributed throughout the coverage area of the multi-antenna station is described. The multi-antenna station includes multiple antennas, a controller, and at least one transmitter unit. The multiple antennas are coupled to the multi-antenna station and include at least one remote antenna that is located away from the multi-antenna station. The controller selects a set of one or more antennas from among the multiple antennas for data transmission to a terminal. The at least one transmitter unit transmits data to the terminal via the set of one or more antennas.

A layout of a wireless communication circuit on a printed circuit board (PCB), which is a rectangular board wherein a first side is a Y-axis and a second side is an X-axis. The layout has a first antenna located at a corner between the first side and the second side. An antenna switch and a first filter are located at middle y-coordinate and a X-coordinate. A RF integrated circuit (RFIC) is located after the first filter. A first regulator is located near the second side and higher than the RFIC. A media access control (MAC) is located at about a middle y-coordinate and higher than the first regulator. An oscillator is located at a corner between the second side and the third side. A second regulator is located near the fourth side and above the first regulator. A power amplifier is located near the fourth side above the RFIC. An antenna on a printed circuit board (PCB) with a compensating capacitor. The antenna has a radiator disposed over a first surface of the PCB. Wherein the radiator includes a signal feeding section and a tuning section coupled together at a joint. The tuning section includes a bending portion. Also and, a ground layer with or without a protuding portion is disposed on a second surface of the PCB, wherein the bending portion of the tuning section is overlapping with the ground layer to form the compensating capacitor. In addition, the radiator can also have a short circuit stub section, electrically coupled to the ground layer.

A wireless communication circuit has a first and second antennas. The second antenna is also set for use as a transmitting antenna. An antenna switch respectively receives signals from the first and second antennas and selects one of the signals. A first filter is used to receive the output signal from the antenna switch. A RFIC unit is used to receive an output signal from the first filter during the receiving mode as well as output a transmitting signal during the transmitting mode. A power amplifier is used to receive the signal and amplify the signal. A second filter receives the amplified transmitting signal to filter away an undesired frequency noise. Also and, a transmission/receiving (T/R) switch receives the transmitting signal from the second filter, wherein the T/R switch can also be switched to allow the signal received from the second antenna to be output to the second terminal of the antenna switch.

Wireless communication circuit architecture

A method and apparatus for transmit power adjustment in radio frequency systems. According to the invention, the apparatus is made up of a detector, an input module and an output module. The detector is adapted to detect the output power of a transmit channel. The input module coupled to the detector generates an input value substantially indicative of the output power while the output module accepts an output value that is used to adjust the output power. Also, there is a means for computing the output value based on a difference multiplied by a predetermined factor, where the difference is between the input value and a target value substantially corresponding to the desired output power.

Method and apparatus for transmit power adjustment in radio frequency systems

The embodiment of the present invention provides a joint clock source coupling architecture of a time division duplex (TDD) transceiver to minimize a circuit element interference and stabilize a performance of a circuit element within the TDD transceiver. Thereby, a communication link of the TDD transceiver is ensured, and a throughput of the TDD transceiver is increased.
