This review paper presents an overview of the available technologies used nowadays for the removal of arsenic species from water. Conventionally applied techniques to remove arsenic species include oxidation, coagulation-flocculation, and membrane techniques. Besides, progress has recently been made on the utility of various nanoparticles for the remediation of contaminated water. A critical analysis of the most widely investigated nanoparticles is presented and promising future research on novel porous materials, such as metal organic frameworks, is suggested.

Technologies for Arsenic Removal from Water: Current Status and Future Perspectives

A review of optical basicity and its applications to oxidic systems

The extant data for the physical properties of BOS slags and for slag systems relevant to BOS have been collated and evaluated. Data for the following physical properties have been reviewed: phase equilibria, viscosities, densities, electrical conductivities, thermal conductivities, and the surface and interfacial tension between the metal and slag. In addition, various mathematical models have been developed for the estimation of the liquidus temperature, density, viscosity, surface tension, heat capacity, and enthalpy of slags. The efficacies of these different models have been evaluated and their reliability in predicting physical property for molten BOS slags has been assessed.

Chemical bonding in the oxides of the elements: A new appraisal

Electrochemical methods have been described for the removal of arsenic from contaminated water due to their advantages in comparison to other removal methods. Only electrocoagulation and electrodialysis were used for this purpose. The present review article describes state-of-art of arsenic removal by using these techniques. Attempts have been made to explain the optimization for maximum removal of arsenic by controlling metal electrodes, pH of water, current densities, processing time and ionic concentration. The maximum arsenic removal achieved was brought down to the ppb level (10 ppb being permissible limit of World Health Organization in drinkable water). Efforts have also been made to explain the mechanism of arsenic removal by these techniques. Besides, the future perspectives of electrochemical techniques for the removal of arsenic have also been highlighted.

Studies on the constitution of silicate melts are very important not only in the fields of metallurgical processing or the glass industry, but also in dealing with the properties or constitution of liquids. For this reason a PbO-SiO2 system was chosen as a model of silicate or slag because of its low melting point and glass forming properties. As a result electrical conductivity measurements, it was found that the lead silicate melt had a positive temperature coefficient and ionic conductance like molten NaCl, which was verified by fused electrolysis.
