Low-energy hadron physics from effective chiral Lagrangians with vector mesons

The Skyrme Model

We consider aspects of dynamical baryons in a holographic dual of QCD that is formulated on the basis of a D4/D8-brane configuration. We construct a soliton solution carrying a unit baryon number and show that it is obtained as an instanton solution of four-dimensional Yang-Mills theory with fixed size. The Chern-Simons term on the flavor D8-branes plays a crucial role of protecting the instanton from collapsing to zero size. By quantizing the collective coordinates of the soliton, we derive the baryon spectra. Negative-parity baryons as well as baryons with higher spins and isospins can be obtained in a simple manner.

Baryons from instantons in holographic QCD

Since the discovery of the first charmed meson in 1976, many open-charm and open-bottom hadrons were observed. In 2003 two narrow charm-strange states $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ were discovered by the BaBar and CLEO Collaborations, respectively. After that, more excited heavy hadrons were reported. In this work, we review the experimental and theoretical progress in this field.

A review of the open charm and open bottom systems

Nucleons as skyrme solitons with vector mesons: Electromagnetic and axial properties

The nonlinear sigma model with the Wess-Zumino term is extended to the low-lying vector meson resonances ..omega.., rho and A/sub 1/. These resonances are treated as chiral gauge multiplets in a minimally broken SU(2)/sub L/xSU(2)/sub R/xU(1)/sub V/ gauge model. The bulk properties of hedgehog skyrmions are investigated. The results indicate a clear improvement over the conventional Skyrme model.

Skyrmions in the presence of vector mesons

We extend the Skyrme model to incorporate the vector mesons $\ensuremath{\rho}$ and $\ensuremath{\omega}$ in a way consistent with the non-Abelian anomalies of QCD and vector-meson dominance. The vector mesons are treated as composite gauge bosons of a hidden ${\mathrm{SU}(2)}_{V}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}\mathrm{U}(1)$ symmetry. We investigate the bulk properties of hedgehog-type Skyrme solitons in the baryon number $B=1$ sector of this model.

These are the proceedings of the workshop on ``Effective Field Theories in Nuclear, Particle and Atomic Physics'' held at the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef of the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft, Bad Honnef, Germany from December 13 to 17, 2005. The workshop concentrated on Effective Field Theory in many contexts. A first part was concerned with Chiral Perturbation Theory in its various settings and explored strongly its use in relation with lattice QCD. The second part consisted of progress in effective field theories in systems with one, two or more nucleons as well as atomic physics. Included are a short contribution per talk.
