The invention relates to a method for preparing MgAl2O4 spinel and belongs to the technical field of inorganic nonmetallic materials. The invention aims at preparing the pure MgAl2O4 spinel by virtue of a low-cost and easy-to-operate method. The method comprises the following steps of firstly preparing MgAl2O4 powder containing other phases from Mg powder, Al powder, TiO2 powder, and B2O3 powder as raw materials through self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) reaction and removing the other phases by virtue of a nitric acid pickling method to obtain the pure MgAl2O4. The technical key points of the method are appropriate ratio of reactants and suitable pickling environment. The prepared MgAl2O4 spinel can be used as excellent acoustically conducting dielectric materials and fiber optic sensing materials.
