Design and Implementation of Integrated Simulation Software for Multichannel Modified Electroconvulsive Therapy

A crucial component of human body is iron, which binds with oxygen to make haemoglobin in red blood cells. The substance turns poisonous when the iron concentration rises. Hemochromatosis is one such condition and is characterized by an excessive accumulation of iron (Fe3+) in the blood. This additional iron builds up in the liver, pancreas, heart, joints, and skin, where it can cause dark skin pigmentation, liver cirrhosis, and arrhythmias, among other problems. If left untreated, it can even be fatal. Hemochromatosis is classified into two types: primary hemochromatosis, which is inherited and caused by a mutation in the HFE gene, and secondary hemochromatosis, which is caused by a diet that causes the blood to become unusually iron-enriched. Typical symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, fever, nausea, and nausea. Treatment options include chelation therapy and phlebotomy. Chelation is used by patients who have ailments such as anaemia, cardiac problems, and so on. Deferasirox, Deferiprone, and Deferoxamine are used as part of the chelation therapy to lower the blood's iron concentration. By including chelating medication and blood cells into a model, the effectiveness of the medication using COMSOL is investigated. Ironconcentration of the drug decreases following the chemical reaction. During the analysis of the 3D model with the Multiphysics coupling, variables including velocity and pressure profiles were examined.

Analysis based on the Pharmacodynamics of Blood Cells using Finite Element Analysis Method(FEM)

Simulation in an individualized real head model based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is increasingly required for safety design of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which aims to reduce the potential risk of side-effect. To simplify the complicated operational procedures of conventional methods, this paper designs and implements the integrated simulation software for multi-channel ECT on MATLAB platform. Any step in the simulation procedure, in detail, MRI data read, MRI normalization and segmentation, tissue classification and reconstruction, mesh generation, geographic model generation, electrodes placement, parameter configuration and electric field simulation, which are previously performed on COMSOL, MATLAB, AVIZO and other large-scale software platforms, can be performed by just clicking the corresponding item in a MATLAB user-friendly interface. It uses the MATLAB toolboxes to replace specific platforms such as AVIZO to generate mesh. Although it still takes COMSOL as the core, the simulation computations and other operations on COMSOL run in the background by calling corresponding interface functions. In addition, it provides options of the simulation channel number for future developing ECT technique. The software significantly improves the efficiency of data processing and reduces the time cost, which is an easy-to-use tool for ECT simulation.

Dynamics of the blood flow play an important role in the development and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In recent decades, blood flow simulation has been widely used to better understand the symptomatic spectrum of different diseases, in order to improve existing or develop new therapeutic techniques. Numerical simulation for biomagnetic fluid (such as blood) flow through a tube with rectangular cross section under the influence of magnetic field is studied in this work. Blood considered as a magnetic and incompressible fluid. The magnetic field effects on the blood stream in a tube are created by a permanent magnet outside the tube. The equations of motion Original Research Article Salem and Tuchin; ARRB, 35(9): 76-82, 2020; Article no.ARRB.60148 77 which describe the flow is governed by the combination of magnetic equations for permanent magnet and Navier-Stokes equation for fluid (blood) were solved numerically by using COMSOL Multiphysics® Modeling Software.
