Using the Internet Of Things Technology for supervising solar photovoltaic power generation can greatly enhance the performance, monitoring and maintenance of the plant. With advancement of technologies the cost of renewable energy equipments is going down globally encouraging large scale solar photovoltaic installations. This massive scale of solar photovoltaic deployment requires sophisticated systems for automation of the plant monitoring remotely using web based interfaces as majority of them are installed in inaccessible locations and thus unable to be monitored from a dedicated location. The discussion in this paper is based on implementation of new cost effective methodology based on IoT to remotely monitor a solar photovoltaic plant for performance evaluation. This will facilitate preventive maintenance, fault detection, historical analysis of the plant in addition to real time monitoring.

An IoT based smart solar photovoltaic remote monitoring and control unit

As technology is advancing, cost of renewable energy equipments is decreasing which has resulted in a massive increase in solar photovoltaic installations. Most of these installations act as auxiliary power source. A majority of these are installed in inaccessible locations — as close as a rooftop to as far away as a dessert. Hence they require sophisticated systems for remote monitoring of these installations using wide area networks. In this paper we will discuss a low cost IOT based embedded Solar PV Monitoring system which will make use of GPRS module and a low cost microcontroller to send the data measured at the production end on the internet, which can then be accessed anywhere on the globe. This will provide us real time information of the installation which will help us in its maintenance, fault detection and will give us a record of all the data at fixed intervals.

Environmental air pollution monitoring system that measures, RSPM (Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter), NO x, and SO 2 are proposed. The traditional air quality monitoring system, controlled by the Pollution Control Department, is extremely expensive. Analytical measuring equipment is costly, time and power consuming, and can seldom be used for air quality reporting in real time. Wireless Sensor Networks are a new and very challenging research field for embedded system design automation, as their design must enforce stringent constraints in terms of power and cost. Wireless Sensor Network is a fast evolving technology having a number of potential applications in various domains of daily-life, such as structural and environmental monitoring, medicine, military surveillance, condition based maintenance etc. A WSN is composed of a large number of sensor nodes that are usually deployed either inside a region of interest or very close to it. WSN nodes are low-power embedded devices consisting of processing and storage components (a processor connected to a RAM and/or flash memory) combined with wireless RF transceiver and some sensors/actuators. The proposed system makes use of an Air Quality Index (AQI) which is presently in use. Several sensor nodes, which measures pollutants information, were uniformly deployed in the networks to create sensing phenomena. The simulation results consist of the scenario generated and x and y co-ordinates of the nodes from the gateway by using Network Simulator (NS-2.33). For better power management we used low power strategies and hierarchical routing protocol in wireless air pollution system and caused the motes to sleep during idle time.

Design of energy aware air pollution monitoring system using wsn

Nowadays peoples facing the problem of limitation of non-renewable energy sources, so to solve this problem the best solution is to use renewable energy sources like solar energy. Automation of the solar photovoltaic power generation is the aim of this research work. The Internet of Things platform is used to monitor and control the generation of the solar power. Maintenance like photovoltaic array cleaning is also controlled by using IoT. Raspberry Pi module is used as processor and inbuilt WiFi module is used to communicate data with the cloud. In this proposed system for improving the efficiency, one Arduino Uno microcontroller based assembly is added which is used to follow the sun's position throughout the day for collecting maximum possible solar energy. Collectively this proposed system improves efficiency, performance, maintenance, fault detection and real time monitoring as well as controlling of solar photovoltaic power generation.

Monitoring of Air Pollution using Wireless Sensors – A case study of monitoring air pollution in Nagpur city

This paper presents the synthesis of a SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system, named Pollution Guard, designed to collect and process atmospheric pollution data measured in several strategic points of a region. Pollution Guard makes use of the GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) data communication infrastructure from a mobile communication provider that covers a very large area, practically the air pollution data being collected from every place in the country. In comparison to other similar systems, the new functionalities provided by Pollution Guard are the SMS (Short Messaging System) and e-mail alerts generated when the level of toxic substances exceeds some given values, chosen with regard to respiratory illness.

GPRS Based System for Atmospheric Pollution Monitoring and Warning

In aviation, an undesirable phenomenon that can occur with increased airport traffic is garbling. The main problem is that if two aircraft are within a short critical distance to each other, the replay messages (response signals) can overlap. To better understand the garbling phenomenon by aviation students and engineers and to prevent the occurrence of this undesirable phenomenon that can lead to tragic events, we have modelled and simulated this phenomenon using an algorithm that statistically estimates the number of garbled replies (erroneous replay messages/ response signals) for several aircraft interrogated by a secondary surveillance radar.
