For a breakdown time lag of 10/sup -7/ to 10/sup -3/, both slow subsonic and thin supersonic streamers were found to emanate from a point electrode in deionized water (/spl sigma/=5/spl times/10/sup -5/ S/m). The slow streamer-formed dendrite probably consists of gaseous microbubbles. Relaxation of the slow streamers was studied. The development of fast streamers resulted from kinetic phase transition in the liquid, with subsequent ionization of thin discharge channels. It was shown that heating of water and electrohydrodynamic flow do not affect the prebreakdown phenomena under these conditions. A model has been proposed of an anodic supersonic streamer which is generated by the plasma in the condensed medium. >

Dynamics of prebreakdown phenomena in a uniform field in water

The chemical and physical mechanisms for the formation of passivation coatings on active metal nanoparticles were studied in this work. The passivation processes involved in the formation of coatings on nanoparticles were analyzed by SEM, TEM, XRD, EDS, DTA-TG and chemical analysis. Inorganic passivation coatings for aluminum nanopowders were more effective in terms of thermal stability than organic ones. The stability of organic passivation coatings to further oxidation did not depend on the type of coating, but instead depended on the particle size of the passivated powders. A new advanced approach involving a metal nanopowder passivation technique has been applied.

The article discusses the issue of organizing management of a constantly operating object distributed in space and developing arbitrarily, while the organization of management should be optimal according to the criterion - the maximum return (income) on the invested funds (equipment) and the raw materials used. An energy system with well-known engineering concepts is used occasionally as an example. Particular attention is paid to the issue of the reliability of such an object, its significance for the state economic mechanism. The article provides a specific sequence for formulating the control goal based on parametric (measuring) information.

The phenomenon of electrical explosion of conductors is considered in the context of the changes in the energy and structural states of the metal at the stages of energy delivery and relaxation of the primary products of EEC. It is shown that these changes are related to the forced interaction of an intense energy flux with matter and to the subsequent spontaneous relaxation processes.

Structural and energy processes in electrically exploded conductors

A texture method of estimating the resistance properties of carbon-black–filled elastomers is suggested and tested. It is demonstrated that the entropy of a texture parameter histogram can be used to identify regularities in the structure formation of filled composite materials and to describe quantitatively their resistance properties.
