The present invention provides a high-speed electrical interconnection system designed to overcome the drawbacks of conventional interconnection systems. That is, the present invention provides an electrical connector capable of handling high-speed signals effectively.

An apparatus for delivering a stent into a blood vessel includes a sheath having a rounded bullet-shaped distal portion including a plurality of flexible leaflets integrally molded thereto. The stent is disposed in its contracted condition within a lumen of the sheath proximate the distal portion. A bumper is slidably disposed within the lumen that includes a helical compression coil, a bumper element attached to the helical coil including a blunt distal edge for abutting the stent, and an extension element extending distally from the bumper element through the stent and between the leaflets to facilitate introducing the apparatus over a guidewire. The sheath is formed by inserting a bullet into a blunt-ended tube, and inserting the tube into a bullet-shaped bore in a heated die until the tube material is softened and deforms into a rounded bullet shape. Slits are then cut into the distal portion to create the leaflets.

A connector for a coaxial cable comprising a cap and a bottom insulating plate. The plate has mounted thereon a first and second pair of contact elements. After the end of the cable is properly prepared, the first pair of contact elements is designed to pierce the outer insulation sheath of the cable and electrically contact the outer conductor while the second pair of contact elements is designed to pierce the inner insulation sheath and contact the inner conductor. A modular connector system wherein modules with high contact element density may be surface mounted to a printed circuit board. The connector modules achieve high contact element density by mutually displacing or offsetting the ends of adjacent contact elements in the same column in the direction of the row which extends in the longitudinal direction of the connector housing. The displaced ends are connected by surface mounting means to contact surfaces on the printed circuit board. A unique contact design is disclosed which can be used also in cable and other types of connectors. Press-fit electrical terminals such as press-fit pins for insertion into plated through holes of circuit boards. Such pins have a generally H-shaped press-fit zone formed by a central web 2 indented with a series of transverse corrugations 4 interconnecting four perpendicularly extending compliant fins 10, 10', 12,12'. Preferably the terminals are formed by stamping from sheet material with a plurality of such pins remaining interconnected to a carrier strip until after mass insertion into plated through holes. Stamping with a pair of corrugated-faced dies into opposed anvil members reduces longitudinal movement of material during swaging and improves dimensional tolerances. The corrugations on the central web reduce flexing of the pin after installation in the plated through hole. Preferably, the terminals include a slug of solder held on at least a portion of each of the opposed faces of the central web.

In an electrical connector apparatus two connectors are each attached to opposite ends of a multiplicity of connector pins and the middle of said pins are mounted in a circuit board, one of said connectors being spaced apart from the circuit board by a pair of spacer elements and connected to the other connector by a pair of mounting pegs passing through openings in the circuit board and spacer elements. Movement between one connector and the circuit board is achieved in response to rotation of the spacer elements.
