A fiber access terminal for mounting to the end of a fiber distribution cable and configured to be extended through a buried conduit. The fiber distribution cable may include a plurality of optical fibers and enters a housing of the terminal through a base. The terminal also includes a plurality of fiber optic connectors or adapters extending through the housing in generally the same direction as the fiber distribution cable for connecting to optical fiber customer drop cables. The terminal includes a cover and the housing defining an interior and the interior includes a cable slack storage arrangement providing bend radius protection for the optical fiber cables within the interior. An improved fiber distribution panel including fiber connecting and splicing modules which are slidable into and out of a housing which is formed to support a plurality of said modules. Each module is provided with means for supporting a fiber connector at an angle with respect to the front edge thereof allowing access to the connectors and supports a booklet for storing slack fiber and for supporting permanent fiber connectors within said module.

The housing includes an outer surface containing a plurality of receptacles and cooperatively defines an inner cavity with the base. A mounting assembly (1) for optical equipment comprises a plurality of trays (2) detachably hinged together. Each tray (2) may be adapted to carry optical components as well as optical fibre splices and they can be hinged together into a stack in one of a number of different configurations, allowing convenient access for both installation and maintenance. The present disclosure relates to a drop terminal mounting system for use in a fiber optic network. The drop terminal mounting system includes a drop terminal having a drop terminal housing to which a plurality of fiber optic adapters are mounted. The fiber optic adapters have exterior ports that are accessible from an exterior of the drop terminal housing. The drop terminal mounting system also includes a bracket having a cradle for receiving the drop terminal. The bracket has features that facilitate mounting the bracket to different types of structures such as poles, strands, or to hand-holes.

A method and device for organizing a bight of an optical fiber and the like at a splice or slack point is provided. The method comprises wrapping the bight about a cylindrical core to form a helix or a pair of helices of opposite handedness, thereby both minimizing the diameter of a container necessary to enclose that bight and maximizing the bend radius of the fiber. The bight may be laid on a sheet for convenient wrapping, and a plurality of fibers per sheet, sheets per core, or cores per splice may be used if the number of fibers to be organized is large. A ready means of encapsulation is also provided.

A heat-recoverable closure assembly for enclosing e.g. cable splices comprising a heat-recoverable outer sleeve surrounding a body to be enclosed thereby, a support member surrounding the body and within the sleeve which support member has slotted end portions arranged to be capable of forming a tapering transition from the support member to the body, and a flexible barrier layer bridging the slots of the slotted portions. The barrier may act to seal the slots against ingress of moisture ior heat, and the barrier layer preferably covers substantially all of one surface of the support. Foamed polymer layers are particularly suitable as heat barriers, and metallic layers carried on a flexible carrier are particularly suitable as moisture barriers. The barrier may be inside or outside the support member, to suit end use requirements. A heat barrier will normally be placed outside the support member when the latter is made of thermoplastic material.

A device and method for organizing a bight in an optical fiber at a splice (18) or slack point, so as to both minimize the size of a container necessary to enclose that bight and maximize the radius through which such fiber is bent, is provided. The method comprises laying the bight on a sheet (26) in such a way that, when the sheet is wrapped about a cylindrical core (20) the radius of any bend in the fiber is greater than the minimum bending radius, and wrapping the sheet about the core. The method is suitable for both in-line and butt splices, and provides ready means of fiber identification and encapsulation.
