Journal ArticleDOI
Ghrelin levels in obesity and anorexia nervosa: effect of weight reduction or recuperation.
TL;DR: Plasma ghrelin levels present opposite changes in obesity and AN after dietary intervention, suggesting that gh Relin is a good marker of nutritional status.
Journal ArticleDOI
Peptides and food intake.
Carmen Sobrino Crespo,Aránzazu Perianes Cachero,Lilian Puebla Jiménez,Vicente Barrios,Eduardo Arilla Ferreiro +4 more
TL;DR: Ghrelin is a peptide secreted from the stomach and, in contrast to other gut hormones, plasma levels decrease after a meal and potently stimulate food intake, whereas other circulating factors such as insulin and leptin relay information regarding long-term energy stores.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiple endocrine abnormalities of the growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor axis in patients with anorexia nervosa: effect of short- and long-term weight recuperation.
Jesús Argente,N. Caballo,Vicente Barrios,M T Muñoz,J. Pozo,Julie A. Chowen,G. Morandé,M. Hernández +7 more
TL;DR: The GH-IGF axis is dramatically altered in patients with anorexia nervosa and changes in the peripheral IGF system however, appear to be independent of modifications in GH secretion and, in contrast to current thought, not all of the observed abnormalities are rapidly reversed with weight recuperation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiple endocrine abnormalities of the growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor axis in prepubertal children with exogenous obesity : Effect of short- and long-term weight reduction
TL;DR: The GH-IGF axis is dramatically altered in patients with exogenous obesity, however, most changes in the peripheral IGF system appear to be independent of the modifications in GH secretion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ghrelin levels from fetal life through early adulthood: relationship with endocrine and metabolic and anthropometric measures.
Leandro Soriano-Guillén,Vicente Barrios,Julie A. Chowen,Ignacio Sánchez,Santiago Vila,José Quero,Jesús Argente +6 more
TL;DR: The highest levels of ghrelin are found during early postnatal life, when growth hormone begins to exert its effects on growth and important changes in food intake occur, suggesting that this hormone may participate in these processes.
