Comparative Analysis of Black Hole Attack in Ad Hoc Network Using AODV and OLSR Protocols

A mobile Adhoc network (MANET) is a collection of mobile nodes to form a temporary network without use of any predefined infrastructure. Direct communication is possible only when two nodes lie within their sensing range; otherwise communication is made through intermediate nodes till the destination is reached. Such type of networks can allow any node to join in the network or leave the network at any instant of time. So any node can act as a host or the router in the network, which results in security issues in MANETs. A well known attack in MANETs is a Black hole attack. In this paper, we present a simple but effective method called Code Division Security Method (CDSM) for security in order to prevent Black hole attack in MANETs. Black hole node is a malicious node which can mislead a normal node to forward the data through it and corrupt the data so that it can degrade the performance of the network. We validate our approach using network simulator with an example.

Information exchange in a mobile network without any infrastructure support, such networks are called Adhoc networks. This plays a major platform and used in important applications. A Mobile Adhoc Network is a mobile multihop wireless network, which is capable of autonomous operation. Because of the open medium and wide distribution of nodes make MANET harm to malicious attackers. It is crucial to develop efficient intrusion detection mechanisms to protect MANET from attacks. We present a various types of attacks in the network layer and Intrusion Detection mechanisms are used for protecting multihop MANET. To overcome the attacks, enhancing security method called Hybrid Cryptography and a comparison of various types of attacks with different IDs mechanisms is made. We classify, a single type of attack can be achieved by point detection algorithm (PDA) and range of attacks can be achieved by intrusion detection systems (IDs). Our survey is based on various types of attacks on multihop MANET and investigation of problems caused through malicious nodes by various types of Active and Passive group.

Enhancing Security with Intrusion Detection Methods in Multihop MANETs

Adhoc network is composed of mobile nodes having dynamic topology .The nodes sends the data packet to the other nodes by forwarding mechanism. The black hole is a malicious node that advertises itself as a node through which the path to the destination is present. The nodes send the data packet to the black hole considering it as a right path. The problem with the black hole is that it drops the packet or sends it to a route away from the destination. In this paper present various aspects of black hole attack that tells the reasons and the problem in the network due to black hole.

Enhanced and more secure multipath AODV routing protocol to avoid black hole attack in MANET

An Ad hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile nodes dynamically forming a temporary network without the use of any existing network infrastructure or centralized administration. In Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANET), each mobile node acts as a host as well as a router. These nodes communicate to each other by hop-to-hop communication. The dynamic topology of MANET allows nodes to join and leave the network at any point of time. Wireless MANET is particularly vulnerable due to its fundamental characteristics such as open medium, dynamic topology, distributed cooperation and constrained capability. So security in MANET is a complex issue. There are a lot of routing protocol for Ad-hoc network like Ad-hoc On Demand Distance Vector Routing (AODV), Dynamic Source Routing (DSR), Destination Sequence Distance Vector Routing (DSDV) and Temporally Ordered Routing Algorithm.AODV is an on-demand reactive routing protocol for mobile ad hoc networks. But in existing AODV, there is no security provision against a well-known "Black Hole" attack. Black Hole nodes are those malicious nodes that agree to forward packet to destination but do not forward packet intentionally. These Black Hole nodes participate in the network actively and degrade the performance of network. In this paper we proposed a solution for identifying the malicious node in AODV protocol suffering from Black Hole attack.
