It generates a point cloud or a set of data points in a coordinate system that accurately depicts a physical object's size and shape. The urge of human beings to build and recreate 3D objects is an essential requirement in the context of Industry 4.0. In Industry 4.0, 3D scanners are helpful for designing, assessing the minor features of any product, capturing freeform, and providing precise point clouds for complicated geometry and curved surfaces. Today advanced technologies are being introduced in industries, and 3D scanning technology is one of the latest emerging technologies. The situation has progressed significantly, and the ever-emerging world of 3D technology still disrupts a variety of sectors. This paper discusses 3D Scanning, its working process, and its adoption for reverse engineering and Industry 4.0 culture. Finally, this paper covers essential features, traits, and applications of 3D Scanning for Industry 4.0. Using different methods, 3D Scanning can collect information about an item, about an object's highness, breadth, and depth. 3D scanners are available on the market from high-end possibilities. They have different resolutions, and now they provide details of the scan to superimpose colour on an object, but the industry wants them to be developed for other quality attributes. 

Exploring the potential of 3D Scanning in Industry 4.0: An Overview

This paper aims to determine whether the color of based-plant resin called, by the manufacturer, eco-resin has an influence on the dimensions and geometric accuracy of the 3D-printed part. The analysis of flatness, straightness and dimensions deviations was carried out with high-precision measurement systems, and according to current standards regarding linear dimensions and geometrical tolerances. A coordinate measuring machine with contact probes was used to measure the printed part’s physical characteristics, and analysis of variance and response surface design methods were used for the data analysis. The printing experiment was carried out for each color. After that, the measurement of the printed parts and the study of the data were performed. The first finding is that for black and clear eco-resin, there are problems with the printing of the supports. Based on standard data for the range of nominal lengths of the part for linear dimensions, flatness and straightness, the measurement results can be included in different tolerance classes within standard value limits. The best value of the printed structure was obtained for clear eco-resin. The paper demonstrates that the impact of the color of the eco-resin is more important than the supports density for all the studied features. Based on 3D measurements, the optimal values for each of the eco-resin colors regarding the flatness, straightness and linear dimensions deviations of the 3D printed part were also determined.

In today’s fast-moving world, the manufacturing industry must keep up with evolving trends. One such trend that has greatly impacted the manufacturing industry is called Industry 4.0 and is regarded as the fourth industrial revolution. In this revolution one important aspect is that of quality. This paper makes a comparative study between tactile and optical measuring machines in the context of Industry 4.0. As the manufacturing industry must be more flexible and solve problems in a timelier manner, it is important to identify the right technologies appropriate for quality control.
