Abstract: The literature data on cluster transition metal chalcogenide halides are described systematically and discussed. The structures of these compounds are examined and compared with those of the analogous cluster metal halides and chalcogenides. The principal preparative methods of synthesis of the cluster chalcogenide halides are discussed and a systematic account is given of the first results obtained in the study of the chemical properties of this class of inorganic compounds. The bibliography includes 102 references.

Abstract: We have found a new method for the preparation of salts with the [ReCl~]-anion. The chlorination of [Bu4N]2[Re2CIs], which is a dimer with a quaternary metal~etal bond, using dichlorodisulfane S~C12 yielded [Bu4N][ReCI6] (I). Heating 0.2 g [Bu4N]2[Re~CIs] in 5 ml S~C12 in an evacuated sealed tube at 100~ for 30 min and cooling of the reaction mixture to 0~ gave crystals which were separated and dried in vaeuum. A yield of 0.20 g (90%) complex (I) was obtained. Found: C, 29.91; H, 5.76; N, 1.79~ CI, 32.27; S, 0.00%. Calculated: C, 29.95; H, 5.62; N, 2.18; CI, 33.23; S, 0.00%.
