TL;DR: The authors studied the nature and determinants of children's attention to television, and how much and what kind of content is retained from viewing typical fare by viewers of different ages by using age-related and individual difference factors in the processing and evaluation of programs.
Abstract: An increasing interest in how viewers perceive, remember, and evaluate the content of typical television programs characterized television research in the late 1970s. Two issues have been dominant: the nature and determinants of children's attention to television, and how much and what kind of content is retained from viewing typical fare by viewers of different ages. In the 1980s, research on media effects must incorporate age‐related and individual difference factors in the processing and evaluation of programs.
