In this paper basic mathematical tasks of coordinate measure-ment are briey described and a modi ed optimization algorithm is proposed.Coordinate measurement devices generate huge data set and require adaptedmethods to solve related mathematical problems in real time. The proposedalgorithm possesses a simpli ed step size rule and nds the solution of theminimum circumscribed ball tting after only a nite number The iterationis of the steepest descent type applied to the related distance function. But,in contrast to standard algorithms it uses a modi ed step size rule that takesinto account the speci c properties of the occurring objective function. Thissmall di erence in the code improves the performance of the algorithm andit enables real time use of the proposed method in coordinate measurementmachines. Digitale Filter zur Unterdrückung stochastischer Meßabweichungen sowie zur Trennung von Rauheit, Welligkeit und Form sind heute Standard in den verschiedensten Längenmeßgeräten. Für die phasentreue Tiefpaßfilterung ist die Gaußsche Glockenkurve als Filter-Gewichtsfunktion mit der Wellentrennlänge als Parameter inzwischen auch international genormt. Infolge von unvollständiger Implementation der Filteralgorithmen entstehen bei der Anwendung auf begrenzte Profile sowie Profile mit Unterbrechungen Abweichungen des gefilterten Profils bis zu 50%, so daß von einigen Autoren mit alternativen Filterverfahren eine Gegenbewegung zum Gaußfilter ausgelöst worden ist. Im Beitrag wird die Ursache dieser Profilverzerrungen aufgeklärt, und es werden die vollständigen Algorithmen für die numerische Realisierung der digitalen Filterung für begrenzte Profile angegeben. Von den alternativen Verfahren wird die Lösung auf der Grundlage von Ausgleichssplines ausführlich analysiert. Es zeigt sich, daß bei Anwendung numerisch korrekter Filteralgorithmen keinerlei Anlaß für die Ablösung des international standardisierten und in der Praxis eingeführten Gaußfilters besteht.
