Previously patterned printing plates (16) are washed under a high pressure spray of water that removes unreacted photopolymer or emulsion. The water is sprayed at a pressure of about 500 to about 1000 pounds per square inch, preferably about 800 pounds per square inch. An apparatus (10) for processing plates (16) moves the plates (16) past spray nozzles (40). The nozzles (40) are supported on a carriage (60) that reciprocates transversely to the direction of movement of the plates (16), so that the entire surface of each plate (16) is subjected to the direct water spray. The plates (16) are dried under an infrared heater (32) and post cured by ultraviolet light after being washed.

SPRAYING APPARATUS FOR CLEANING FILTER PRESS PLATES Abstract of the Disclosure Spraying apparatus for cleaning filter press plates which are slidable along horizontal guide means. A spray unit is provided with at least one row of spray nozzles located at spaced apart locations thereon and directed at the vertical surface of an adjacent filler plate. The spray unit is reciprocated over a distance equalling the distance across the filter plate to be cleaned whereby spaced apart areas are sprayed by said one row of nozzles as the spray unit makes one run relative to the filter plate. Spray nozzles are positioned on the spray unit during the return run thereof between the spaced apart locations of said one row of nozzles to spray the areas between said spaced apart areas on the return run of the spray unit. Fluid is supplied under pressure to said one row of spray nozzles as the spray unit makes said one run and to said spray nozzles located between said spaced apart locations as the spray unit makes said return run.

A washing apparatus for a filter press comprises a spray pipe having a number of nozzles and disposed outside of the filter plates so as to extend parallel to one side of such filter plate, a movable unit in which one end of the spray pipe opposed to a lower corner of such filter plate is pivotally mounted and which is movable in a region outside of the filter plates parallelly to the latter, a carriage supporting the movable unit and movable in a region outside of the filter plates in the direction of movement of the latter, which carriage, each time a filter plate is transferred toward a movable end plate, serves to carry the movable unit in a direction opposite to the direction of such transfer so as to position the spray pipe between separated filter plates, a mechanism for moving the movable unit to and fro when the spray pipe is positioned between separated filter plates, and a second mechanism for raising and lowering the spray pipe synchronously with the to-and-fro movement of the movable unit, these mechanisms being disposed below the filter plates.

Washing apparatus for filter press

Vertically oriented cathode grids or cathode plates, adjacently situated at closely spaced intervals in a cathode box, are cleaned by spraying jets of liquid onto the cathode surfaces at an angle of about 10°-50° and at a pressure of about 60 to 140 atmospheres, while moving the liquid jets uniformly along the cathode surfaces. A device for performing this process comprises a bar shaped spraying means comprising spraying nozzles which are connected to pressure resistent feeding means for the liquid. The spraying means is connected to a guiding system comprising a bar shaped first guiding means, a second guiding means including a guiding bar and a guiding cylinder and a third guiding means and moving means mounted on a support which can be moved over the cathode box and which further comprises means for aligning the guiding system and the spraying means to the cathode box in such a way that the spraying means can be moved uniformly along the cathode surfaces by means of the guiding means and the moving means.

Process and device for cleaning cathode surfaces

Apparatus for cleaning a drum type vacuum filter having a rotating drum and a porous belt wrapped around and rotating with the drum. Liquid in a slurry carried by the belt is withdrawn through the belt and through grids carried on the drum and openings in the drum surface by a vacuum within the drum. Small particles of solids in the slurry are also drawn through the belt and lodge in and clog the grids and drum surface openings. The cleaning apparatus is positioned in a space formed between the belt and the drum by the travel of the belt from the drum and the return of the belt to the drum. The cleaning apparatus has a spray header movable along the length of the drum and carrying a plurality of nozzles facing the drum surface and grids mounted thereon and is connected to a source of high pressure liquid which is sprayed by the nozzles on the drum openings and grids to clean the solids from them. The number of nozzles and size of the spray header is relatively small compared to the size of the drum so that a large amount of cleaning force is applied to a small drum surface area.

Cleaner for drum type vacuum filter system

A stack of flat plates consisting of rectangular frames spanned by filter cloth, normally held together under pressure, is overlain by a rail extending lengthwise of the stack and carrying a transverse beam on which a carriage supports a cleaning unit introduceable from the side into the space between two separated filter plates. The unit comprises a pair of horizontal or vertical spray tubes, each extending over the full width or height of the filter cloth, which are vertically or horizontally movable with the aid of a pair of guide rollers riding on opposide edge portions of the frame when driven apart by a fluidoperated expander. The correct positioning of the beam with reference to the separated filter plates can be ascertained by a centering device adapted to be lowered into the intervening space, this device including two spreadable arms terminating in respective sensing rollers.
