The occurrence of many gearbox faults simultaneously and possibilities of their identification on the basis of vibration symptoms is not a topic of research work in the literature. The authors of this research are concentrated on identification of a single type of fault on the basis of a single symptom. This paper presents the research work on selection of diagnostic features during gearbox degradation when many faults occur simultaneously. The paper presents the problem of choosing the signal receiving points. In the result of collected signal at many points we obtain a multidimensional matrix from which a point is to be selected for which we get the best distribution of symptoms for the particular faults. In these types of problems we try to find out the answer to the following questions: Which symptoms give the better results for classification of different faults at simultaneous different faults occurrence? For which signal receiving point good/bad technical state classes separate-ability is the highest? Is it possible to reduce symptoms matrix?.

Identification of optimized diagnostic features of multi-stage gearbox condition

In the paper is discussed the new gearbox model which may be used for condition monitoring for faults detection. The model should develop for each stage of a gearbox. The model is obtained from results of measurements. The measurements are done on real object after its run in. The model is obtained by linear regression analysis. The new concept of gearbox model is especially suitable for the case of varying load condition. The model is developed for planetary gearbox, which is incorporated in the system consisting of many stages as a bevel stage, and cylindrical stages. The discussion shows the possibility of replacement the analytical model into the physical model. The simplicity of this model quarantines its robustness.

Robust mechatronic condition monitoring and diagnostic method for gearboxes

Modelling and simulation of gear system dynamics to support the condition monitoring is one of the most important issues which should be properly developed. There are many papers on the subject of gearbox dynamic modelling however they are not coherent. Only in few papers a “complete system”, which consist of a drive, gearbox and a driven machine is considered. The system which is going to be considered in this paper is complete and its parameters are based on a real system. To present different gear system dynamics problems a nonlinear time-varying model is analysed using Mathematica software. In the model the torsional vibration of the rotating system is considered. The model includes time-varying gear mesh stiffness, gear errors of each meshing tooth pair and nonlinearities due to tooth separations. Numerical solution of the system is obtained by Mathematica. Highly optimized superfunctions used in Mathematica analyse model equations and automatically select the right algorithms to get accurate results quickly. Other computation systems (e.g. MATLAB) require manual selection of solution algorithm to apply, whereas in Mathematica we use NDSolve and the risk of wrong results is minimal. The aim of the study is to show that mathematical modelling and computer simulation using Mathematica enable detailed investigation of the dynamic properties of a gearing system.

Modelling and Simulation of Gear Systems Dynamics for Supporting Condition Monitoring Using Mathematica

There is a need to treat a gearbox as a subsystem which consist of several elements like gears, bearings and shafts incorporated into a box. The gearbox is incorporated into a system of a drive, for example an electric motor, and a driven machine. When a system is in operation the mention elements interacts each other. When preparing condition method one has for disposal results of the research directed to evaluation of isolated faults like a tooth crack, tooth breakage, pitting, scuffing, misalignment and so on. It is taken in advance that only one of the mentioned faults occurs in the system. The research is done at the condition of constant load or constant rotation speed. There is also done research under condition of different constant levels of the load and rotation speed. The scenario of degradation process of gearboxes is that only one fault occurs and developed in the system. In real gearbox systems many different scenarios of degradation process may occur. The presented paper will show gearbox condition monitoring procedures, which is equivalent to different scenarios. There are given some steps, which ought be considered when gearbox condition monitoring procedures are developed. Having in mined these steps one can control the gearbox degradation process extending a gearbox live and reducing maintenance cost, creating, what is called, the failure prevention technology. For presenting this paper stimulates us also the papers presented in the MSSP “Special Issue” on the “Condition monitoring of machines in non-stationary operations” where some authors have tendency of treating the machine as the collection of separate not connected elements in the same way as it was stated before.
