Predictors of aspiration pneumonia: how important is dysphagia?
Susan E. Langmore,Margaret S. Terpenning,Anthony Schork,Yin-miao Chen,Joseph Murray,Dennis E. Lopatin,Walter J. Loesche +6 more
TL;DR: Dysphagia was concluded to be an important risk for aspiration pneumonia, but generally not sufficient to cause pneumonia unless other risk factors are present as well, and a dependency upon others for feeding emerged as the dominant risk factor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Periodontal Disease as a Specific, albeit Chronic, Infection: Diagnosis and Treatment
TL;DR: The antimicrobial approach may be as effective as a surgical approach in the restoration and maintenance of a periodontally healthy dentition, this would give a cardiac or stroke patient and his or her physician a choice in the implementation of treatment seeking to improve the patient's periodontal condition so as to reduce and/or delay future cardiovascular events.
Journal ArticleDOI
The subgingival microbial flora during pregnancy.

Journal ArticleDOI
Bacterial leakage around dental restorations: its effect on the dental pulp
TL;DR: This study revealed that the quantity of bacteria filtered from the base of Class V cavity restorations were directly related to the type of medicament used, while zinc oxide and eugenol cement showed none.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aspiration pneumonia: dental and oral risk factors in an older veteran population.
Margaret S. Terpenning,George W. Taylor,Dennis E. Lopatin,Connie Kinder Kerr,B. Liza Dominguez,Walter J. Loesche +5 more
TL;DR: The importance of medical and dental factors in aspiration pneumonia in an older veteran population and the need for further research into these factors is investigated.
