Effects of drying methods on the phytochemicals contents and antioxidant properties of chrysanthemum flower heads harvested at two developmental stages

An open field experiment was carried out during 2015 and 2016 seasons at the experimental nursery of the Ornamental Horticulture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University, Egypt. The purpose of present research was to investigate the effect of foliar application of nano silicon with different concentrations and gypsum soil application on growth, flowering and chemical constituents of Jatropha integerrima plants irrigated with different levels of saline water. The concentrations of saline water were (1000, 2000 and 4000 ppm), in addition to tap water (270 ppm) as a control, simultaneously plants were received monthly foliar application of nano silicon 1 and 2 mM or soil application of gypsum at 20 g/plant, either applied individually or in combination. The results showed that, elevating salt concentration in irrigation water decreased vegetative growth characteristics, flowering traits, leaves anatomy and chemical constituents. In contrast, increasing salinity of irrigation water boosted contents of proline, Ca%, Na%, Cl%, total phenolic and flavonoids. On the other hand, foliar application of nano silicon and soil addition of gypsum treatments either individually or in combination had favorable effects on enhancing vegetative parameters and chemical constitutes, meanwhile decreasing accumulation of Na%, Cl%, total phenolic and flavonoids in leaves. It can be concluded that, foliar spray of nano silicon combined with soil addition of gypsum was the best effective and economic treatment recommended for mitigating the harmful effect of salinity stress on Jatropha plants irrigated with saline water at concentration up to 4000 ppm.

Response of Jatropha integerrima Plants Irrigated with Different Levels of Saline Water to Nano Silicon and Gypsum

Begonia (Begonia semperflorens Link et Otto) belongs to a group of annual plants that are commonly grown in city parks, mainly due to their wide colour options and adaptability to grow either in full sun or semi-shade. Good quality of begonia transplants for early planting outdoors can sometimes be hard to achieve, due to unfavourable conditions early in the season, such as low temperatures leading to insufficient nutrient uptake and plant growth. The aim of this study was to investigate the use of biostimulants for improving the conditions for raising transplants for early outdoor planting. The experiments were conducted in a non-heated glasshouse and were set up as a split plot design with treated and untreated plants in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Influence of biostimulant application on growth, nutrient status and proline concentration of begonia transplants

Field experiments were carried out during the two successive summer seasons of 2015/2016 and 2016/2017. The experiments were accomplished in an open field located at Bader region, El-Beheira Governorate, Egypt to evaluate the effects of humic acid, indole butyric acid (IBA), and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) (Glomus mosseae) individually on vegetative growth, yield, and phytochemical characteristics of Hibiscus Sabdariffa (Roselle jamica). Experimental field plots were designed as randomized complete block design (RCBD). The obtained results of the two seasons, generally, showed that all treatments (HA, IBA, and AMF) individually enhanced the vegetative growth, yield of calyx, and phytochemical parameters of Roselle plants. The HA treatment was the most effective in enhancing most of the studied parameters and might be recommended for enhancing the vegetative growth, yield of calyx, and calyx phytochemical components of Roselle plants under the environmental conditions of Bader region, El-Beheira Governorate and other similar regions.
