Disclosed are systems and methods for prognostic health management (PHM) of electronic systems. Such systems and methods present challenges traditionally viewed as either insurmountable or otherwise not worth the cost of pursuit. The systems and methods are directed to the health monitoring and failure prediction of electronic systems, including the diagnostic methods employed to assess current health state and prognostic methods for the prediction of electronic system failures and remaining useful life. The disclosed methodologies include three techniques: (1) use of existing electronic systems data (circuit as a sensor); (2) use of available external measurements as condition indicators and degradation assessor; and (3) performance assessment metrics derived from available external measurements.

Systems and methods for predicting failure of electronic systems and assessing level of degradation and remaining useful life

There are provided a method and a system for real time monitoring of a powered-on electrical network in a facility in order to detect an electrical anomaly while the electrical network is in use. The system comprises a sensor data receiver for receiving real time sensor data including at least one measured value measured in real time by at least one sensor installed on a conductor of the electrical network in the facility while the electrical network is in use; an anomaly detector for retrieving an anomaly detection rule from an anomaly detection rule database, the rule having an identification of a required input, a formula, and a threshold reference value, for a detection of an anomaly; receiving the real time sensor data from the sensor data receiver and extracting at least one relevant measured value from the at least one measured value using the identification of the required input; comparing the at least one relevant measured value to the threshold reference value according to the formula to determine one of a presence and an absence of the anomaly in the real time sensor data; an event generator controlled by the processor for retrieving and providing anomaly monitoring data if the anomaly is determined to be present by the processor, the anomaly monitoring data including an indication of a monitoring course of action to be carried out to address the anomaly determined to be present.

Electrical anomaly detection method and system

A transformer wiring method and apparatus for fluorescent lighting are described. The fluorescent lighting apparatus includes a transformer and a ballast. An installer is easily able to balance the system load because each fluorescent lighting apparatus includes its own transformer and may be connected directly to a facility's three phase power distribution while still operating at rated voltages. Moreover, the ballast is protected from surges and stray voltages thereby reducing the frequency of ballast failures.

A control system, method and article allows a monitoring module (50) to monitor operation of a main controller (20) in an electric drive, by providing questions and evaluating the accuracy and/or timeliness of responses from the main controller. Upon detection of an excessive number of incorrect or late responses, the monitoring module can shutdown operation, and may provide an alternative communications path, thereby preventing corrupt data from reaching a vehicle network, while providing communications for diagnostic and recovery such as by provision of new software or firmware instructions. The main controller may monitor the operation of the monitoring module, taking appropriate action if a fault is detected. Disabling a supply of power to a traction motor (12) may be based on current operating conditions, such as speed.

There is provided a motor controller in which abnormal state of a motor cable during driving of an AC motor can be detected by a processing unit without using an extra circuit. The motor controller comprises an AC motor, an inverter for driving the AC motor with a motor current through a motor cable, and a motor current detector for detecting a motor current flowing through the motor cable of the AC motor. The motor controller detects abnormality such as short circuit or disconnection of the motor cable from the motor current detected by the motor current detector by using the processing unit.

Systems, methods, and apparatus for fault detection and interruption in power lines are provided. Circuitry is implemented via software and hardware that is configured to sense an operational aspect of a power line and apply signal processing to the sensed operational aspect to detect faults including different types of faults such as transient and steady state faults and can also be configured to identify the type of fault. Information on the fault and the identification of the type of fault can be displayed, stored, or some other output operation can be implemented. Circuitry can be implemented to provide digital signal processing and analog signal processing to, for example, independently and in parallel (e.g., redundant operation) detect faults and respond to faults as they occur (i.e., in real time). The types of faults can include transient type faults that can include ground, arc, line-to-line, and imbalance type faults and can also include steady state type faults (e.g., those showing wear in the machinery of a load).
