A method of making a work-strengthenable alloy which includes a gamma prime phase which method comprises forming a melt comprising the following elements in percent by weight: ______________________________________ molybdenum 6-16chromium 13-25iron 0-23nickel 10-55carbon 0-0.05boron 0-0.05cobalt balance, at least 20,______________________________________ said alloy also containing one or more elements which form gamma prime phase with nickel, the electron vacancy number, N v , of the alloy being defined by N.sub.v =0.61 Ni+1.71 Co+2.66 Fe+4.66 Cr+5.66 Mo wherein the respective chemical symbols represent the effective atomic fractions of the respective elements present in the alloy, said value not exceeding the value N.sub.v =2.82-0.017 W.sub.Fe, where W Fe is the percent by weight of iron in the alloy for those alloys containing no iron or less than 13 percent by weight iron and W Fe is 13 for alloys containing from 13-23 percent by weight iron; cooling said melt; and heating the alloy at a temperature of from 600°-900° C. for a time sufficient to form said gamma prime phase prior to strengthening said alloy by working it to achieve a reduction in cross-section of at least 5 percent; and alloys containing said gamma prima phase.

Alloys containing gamma prime phase and process for forming same

A work-strengthenable alloy which includes a gamma prime phase gamma prime particles comprising the following elements in percent by weight: ______________________________________ molybdenum 6-16chromium 13-25iron 0-23nickel 10-55carbon 0-0.05boron 0-0.05cobalt balance, at least 20,______________________________________ said alloy also containing one or more elements which form gamma prime phase with nickel, the electron vacancy number, N v , of the alloy being defined by N.sub.v =0.61 Ni+1.71 Co+2.66 Fe+4.66 Cr+566 Mo wherein the respective chemical symbols represent the effective atomic fractions of the respective elements present in the alloy, said value not exceeding the value N.sub.v =2.82-0.017 W.sub.Fe, where W Fe is the percent by weight of iron in the alloy for those alloys containing no iron or less than 13 percent by weight iron and W Fe is 13 for the alloys containing from 13-23 percent by weight iron. The alloys are formed by a melt; and heating the alloy at a temperature of from 600°-900° C. for a time sufficient to form said gamma prime phase prior to strengthening said alloy by working it to achieve a reduction in cross-section of at least 5 percent. The gamma prime particles gave a cross-sectional size of at least 10 nanometers.

Alloys containing gamma prime phase and particles and process for forming same

A wear-resistant Ni\Cu alloy and methods of preparing same are disclosed. The alloy comprises a ductile, continuous phase of Ni\Cu with a discontinuous phase of hardened Ti containing particles distributed throughout the continuous phase. The particles are Ti\Al intermetallic or complex Ti x Al y Ni z complex or particle. The alloying components are poured and mixed in the melt under an inert atmosphere, then slowly cooled to provide the desired cast article. The alloy should be protected during melting and cooling in a protective atmosphere, such as a vacuum, or an inert atmosphere so as to inhibit oxide and nitride formation that would otherwise adversely affect desirable alloy properties.

Wear resistant nickel alloys and methods of making same

A heat-treatment method for strengthening cold-worked tubes and other articles made from nickel-base alloys without an attendant loss in corrosion resistance properties. The method is especially useful for tubes destined for energy resource recovery areas, oil fields, sour gas wells, etc., and the tubes may be heated from 316 to 769°C (600 to 1100°F) for up to an hour.

Method for strengthening coldworked nickel-base alloys

A process for treating nickel-copper alloys whereby the alloys attain corrosion-resistant and spring-like properties which comprises heat-treating the alloy to a temperature above 900*C; cooling the alloy to room temperature; cold-rolling the alloy; and tempering the alloy at a residence time of at least 1.5 minutes at 350* to 600*C.
