A compact dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) for broadband applications is proposed. By applying an optimized asymmetrical T-shaped dielectric resonator (DR) and an inverted-trapezoidal patch as a feeding mechanism, an impedance bandwidth of about 75.1%, covering the frequency range from 3.81 to 8.39 GHz, is obtained. The volume of the proposed DRA without ground plane is 0.555 λd3 (λd is the dielectric wavelength at the central operating frequency). Taking a comprehensive consideration of the bandwidth and the size, the proposed DRA can provide maximum bandwidth per unit volume in related conformal patch excited wideband DRA designs. Design details of the proposed antenna and the results of both simulation and experiment are presented and discussed.

Compact Asymmetrical T-Shaped Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Broadband Applications

In this letter, an annular shape microstrip feed is presented, which has been used to excite a hybrid mode in ring dielectric resonator antenna. The proposed feed for ring dielectric resonator antenna has been achieved 10 dB impedance bandwidth of 66.72% at the center frequency of 5.35 GHz. The operating frequency range of the antenna is 3.49 GHz – 7.20 GHz. The radiation patterns are consistent throughout the operational bandwidth. A stable average measured gain of about 4.31 dB has been obtained over the operating band, which is suitable for wideband wireless system applications. A prototype is fabricated and measured. The simulated and measured results are in good agreement.

Wideband Ring Dielectric Resonator Antenna With Annular-Shaped Microstrip Feed

This paper presents a new application of dielectric resonator antenna in radio frequency identification system. A curved dual-band dielectric resonator antenna for RFID applications is proposed. The tag antenna is designed to operate at 2.45 GHz (2.25– 2.55 GHz) and 5.8 GHz (5.65– 5.95 GHz) bands. The radiation characteristics of the tag antenna in free space are investigated. The radar cross sections under different loads are obtained. The effect of curvature on the tag antenna performance is explained. Two examples are considered. In the first example, the tag antenna is mounted on cylindrical bottle filled with the Palmitic Acid material or water like materials. The effect of the object properties on the radiation characteristics and the radar cross section is investigated. In the second example, the tag antenna is mounted on spherical bottle filled with the Palmitic Acid material. The radiation and backscattering characteristics are calculated. The Finite Element Method (FEM) is used for simulation and the Finite Integration Technique (FIT) is used to verify the simulated results.

Curved dual- band dielectric resonator tag antenna for RFID applications

This article presents a comprehensive review of the research carried out on Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRAs) over the last three decades. Dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs) have received increased attention in various applications due to their attractive features in terms of high radiation e-ciency, light weight, small size and low proflle. Over last decades, various bandwidth enhancement techniques have been developed for DRAs. In this article, the attention is focused on a type of DRAs that can ofier multi-resonance frequencies and these frequencies can be merged into a broad band. In order to efiectively review design techniques, DRAs in this article are categorized into three types, broadband, ultra-wideband (UWB) and multiband. The latest developments in DRAs are discussed in the limited scope of this article.

Dielectric Resonator Antennas: Designs and Advances

In this letter, a triple band two-segment cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna with a partial ground plane is investigated. Proposed antenna is excited by a novel microstrip feed that having a microstrip line along with two ring patches. Proposed triple band antenna has been analyzed, studied, and optimized using Ansoft HFSS simulation software. Prototype of proposed structure has been fabricated and tested. Good agreement has been obtained between simulated and measured parameters. The proposed design operates in three different frequency bands, that is, 2.3–2.5 GHz; 3.2–3.8 GHz; 4.67–7.0 GHz with the fractional bandwidth of 8.33%; 17.14%, and 39.93%, respectively. Proposed antenna is able to cover three frequency bands for different wireless applications (WLAN [2.4/5.2/5.8 GHz] and WiMAX [3.5/5.5 GHz] bands). © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Triple band two‐segment cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna with a novel microstrip feed for WLAN/WIMAX applications

A novel feeding technique for dielectric ring resonator antennas, with 2:1 VSWR bandwidth greater than 25% at 5.5 GHz, covering the WLAN upper band is reported in this letter. In order to achieve this wideband characteristic, an L-shaped microstrip monopole is proposed, as both a radiator and a feeding structure. The principle of the wideband characteristics is investigated, with both measured and simulated results of the antenna presented.
