A supply voltage is developed in accordance with an on/off control signal of a remote receiver during a start-up interval and during a power-up mode of operation of a television power supply. During a standby mode of operation, the supply voltage is switched off. The supply voltage produces a supply current in an oscillator that produces a signal at a horizontal rate related frequency. The supply voltage also produces a base drive current in a switching transistor of a horizontal driver only during the start-up interval. During a power-up mode, a run supply voltage is coupled to the oscillator and to the driver.

Start-up control circuitry for a television apparatus

A primary winding of a power transformer is coupled to a source of DC voltage. First and second controllable switches are coupled to the primary winding in a push-pull arrangement. A control circuit responsive to a deflection rate input signal that is synchronized with deflection circuit scanning applies a turn-off switching signal alternately to the two controllable switches during each deflection cycle. In response to the turnoff of each one of the two controllable switches, a turn-on switching signal is applied to the other switch to develop a deflection rate alternating polarity output voltage across an output winding of the power transformer. The output voltage is rectified and applied to a deflection generator to thereby energize the generator into developing scanning current in a deflection winding.

Television receiver, push-pull inverter, ferroresonant transformer power supply synchronized with horizontal deflection

A deflection generator of a television receiver is coupled to a deflection winding for generating scanning current during a deflection cycle. The generator includes a retrace capacitor coupled to the deflection winding for forming a retrace resonant circuit therewith to produce a retrace pulse voltage during a retrace interval of the deflection cycle. An inductor and another capacitor form a second resonant circuit that is coupled to the retrace resonant circuit. A switching arrangement is coupled to a source of energy and the second resonant circuit in a push-pull configuration. The switching arrangement is responsive to a deflection rate switching signal to store during trace a controllable amount of energy from the source in the second resonant circuit. This stored energy is then transferred to the retrace resonant circuit during the retrace interval to replenish losses sustained during the deflection cycle.

Regulated deflection circuit

A control circuit of a television receiver power supply is constructed using a plurality of transistors operating in a common base configuration. The base electrodes of each of the transistors is coupled to a common conductor rail line that maintains the collector currents in the transistors temperature compensated over a wide range of operating temperatures during normal operation power-up mode of the receiver. In a standby mode of the receiver, power dissipation in the transistors is reduced by applying an on/off control signal to the common conductor rail line that prevents the flow of the collector currents in each of the transistors. Consequently, the supply current requirement of the control circuit is reduced during the standby mode.

On/off control circuitry for television

A self-regulating, saturating core power supply for a television receiver includes a magnetizable core having first, second and third core sections. A primary winding is wound around the first core section and an output secondary winding is wound around the second core section. The third core section provides a magnetic circuit path for magnetic flux lines that link both windings. The primary winding is coupled to a source of alternating input voltage for developing an alternating polarity output voltage across the secondary winding. A resonating capacitor is coupled to the secondary winding for generating a current therein that aids in producing substantial magnetic saturation of the third core section twice during each cycle of the alternating polarity output voltage to thereby regulate the output voltage. The second core section remains substantially unsaturated during the entirety of each cycle. The regulated output voltage may be used to develop direct supply voltages for the television receiver such as the B+ scan supply voltage and the ultor high voltage.

Self-regulating saturating core television receiver power supply

A horizontal oscillator provides switching signals for use by a trace switch of a horizontal deflection circuit and to drive a push-pull output stage. The push-pull output stage provides an AC supply voltage to the primary of a power transformer. The rectified secondary winding voltage of the transformer provides a B+ supply voltage to the deflection circuit. After the elapse of a start-up interval, energization voltage for the horizontal oscillator is provided by either the power transformer or the deflection circuit. During the start-up interval the push-pull output stage self-oscillates as an astable multivibrator to develop the AC supply voltage within that interval.

Horizontal deflection and power supply circuit with a start-up arrangement

An inverter operated at the horizontal deflection frequency is coupled to a source of direct voltage for developing an alternating voltage at an output terminal of the inverter. A capacitor AC couples the alternating voltage to the primary winding of a power transformer for developing alternating polarity supply voltages across secondary windings of the transformer. A horizontal generator generates scanning current in a deflection winding. A third winding of the transformer applies to the deflection winding the alternating polarity voltage developed across the third winding. The control circuit of the inverter is responsive to a deflection rate voltage synchronized with scanning current generation for synchronizing operation of the inverter so as to enable the third winding to provide substantial linearity correction to the scanning current. The value of the coupling capacitor is chosen to produce a change in the waveshape of the inverter alternating voltage as it is coupled to the primary winding so as to enhance the linearity correction being provided by the transformer third winding.
