The starting or restarting of a power loom is controlled through a loom control system which controls the operation of a flywheel mass and the operation of the main electric motor of the loom. The control system ascertains the standstill time and the cause for the standstill, as well as the type of weaving binding that was employed at the time of the shut-down. These parameters are processed in a micro-processor which produces a respective result signal and uses that signal for the selection of a suitable start-up or run-up program. These programs are stored in a program library or memory. The micro-processor controls the run-up in response to the selected program, whereby conventionally occurring faults in the woven fabric are avoided. Even fabric faults caused by a standstill, are avoided.

Method for starting a power loom as a function of standstill time

An off-loom take-up for winding a cloth roll from woven cloth coming from a loom which includes a frame and a pair of spaced take-up rollers carried by the frame, at least one of the take-up rollers is a driven take up roller. A drive motor with an output shaft drives the driven take-up roller, and a motor controller is provided for controlling the speed of the output shaft of the drive motor. A pivotal dancer roll assembly is carried by the frame and includes a pivotal dancer roll under which the cloth travels from the loom to the cloth take-up roll. A voltage sensor responsive to the movement of the pivotal dancer roll outputs a plurality of voltage signals correlated to a plurality of different pivotal positions of the dancer roll. An electronic limit processor is provided for receiving the voltage signals, the processor processing the voltage signals to generate a control signal which is output to the motor controller for controlling the drive motor.

Solid state web take-up control

A loom with an off-loom take-up which employs a loom tray between the loom and the take-up to prevent the woven fabric from falling onto the weave room floor but which allows trash and dirt to pass through. The loom tray coprises a substantively rectangular frame with a mesh construction connected thereto with sufficient openness to allow trash and dirt to fall through.

The device for monitoring the knitwear (16') of a flatbed knitting machine for falling-off exhibits several support bodies (18) having in each case a feeling lever (17) which rests against the knitwear (16') and which is coupled to a switching arm (25). The switching arm (25) is constructed as a contactless contactor and is moved during an adjusting movement of the feeling lever (17), which is triggered when knitwear (16') has fallen off, through the contact range of an electric switching device, for example a light barrier or an ultrasonic barrier or through a magnetic field area into an ineffective end position so that a control signal can be triggered only during the adjusting movement of the switching arm (25) between its end positions.

An apparatus and method for controlling the drive of an off loom take-up which winds cloth upon a cloth roll is disclosed. The off loom take up comprises a pair of spaced, driven take-up rollers upon which the cloth roll is supported and rotated. As cloth coming from the loom is directed to the cloth roll being wound, it passes underneath a pivotal directional roll which is supported on spaced pivotal arms. A motor controller controls an electric motor which drives the driven take-up rollers at a preset speed which allows the cloth to travel at the directional roll at a slightly slower speed than the speed at which the cloth travels leaving the take-off rolls of the loom. This establishes a predetermined downward "creep" in the movement of the pivotal directional roll. The downward movement of the directional roll is sensed by a detector. When the directional roll descends a prescribed distance, the detector momentarily sends a high speed signal to the drive motor which momentarily steps up the speed of the drive motor and the cloth roll being to take out the slack of the cloth. The preset speed is resumed and the high speed signal is discontinued. Conveniently, the tension of the cloth created by the directional roll can be adjusted to a desired tension by placing the detector object on a movable bracket so that the position at which the detector switch is activated may be varied in accordance with different descending horizontal positions of the directional roll.

Apparatus and method for controlling an off loom take-up

Apparatus and method to detect high tension in a web material being taken-up and cutting off the take-up device upon such detection to prevent stretching and necking of the fabric being handled. The detection device provides a time delay between detection of the condition of high tension and deactivation of the fabric take-up apparatus.
