A bearing assembly for a gear pump that includes a bearing housing, a bearing, and a biasing member. The bearing housing has a housing bore that extends between a first housing end and a second housing end along a bearing axis. The bearing is disposed within the housing bore. The bearing has an outer diameter extending between a first bearing end and a second bearing end. The biasing member is disposed between the bearing and the bearing housing to apply a biasing load to the bearing.

The invention relates to a gear pump (1) comprising a pumping chamber (2) in which a first shaft (8) and a second shaft (9) are rotated about their respective axes (D8, D9), each of the first and second shafts (8, 9) supporting at least one hydraulic-pumping element (20) that hydraulically pumps a fluid in the pumping chamber (2), said at least one hydraulic-pumping element (20) of each of said first and second shafts (8, 9) being positioned in said pumping chamber (2) and each having at least one first radial projection (21). In the pumping chamber (2), each of said first and second shafts (8, 9) further supports at least one mechanical drive pinion (14) that rotates each of said first and second shafts (8, 9), each mechanical drive pinion (14) having second radial projections (15). Said at least one mechanical drive pinion (14) is separate from said at least one hydraulic-pumping element (20), and the number of said at least one first radial projection (21) and of said second radial projections (15) is different.

Gear pump for compressible liquids or fluids

Toothed gears and lobed gears intermesh to create large volume pockets in gear sets of a given size. The pockets are larger than the pockets that exist in current tooth or lobe pumps and provide the benefit of a pump that better handles shear sensitive liquids. Preferably, the profiles of the teeth and of the lobes are involute-shaped to provide rolling contact and a fixed pressure angle between the teeth and lobes during engagement. The toothed gears and lobe gears improve upon standard spur and helical gear designs by omitting alternate teeth on the standard toothed gears and filling in corresponding gaps on the mating standard lobed gears. Additional tooth and lobed gear rotors may be added in tandem as additional pairs of gears to the shafts and circumferentially offset to provide driving tooth engagement between at least one pair of the toothed and lobed rotors at every point around the rotational circumference of the rotors. This spur gear or helical gear configuration eliminates the need for separate driving/synchronizing gears.
