A non-invasive physiologic signs monitoring device includes a garment with electrocardiogram electrodes and various inductive plethysmographic sensors sewn, embroidered, embedded, or otherwise attached to the garment with an adhesive. The garment is in the form of a shirt. When the garment is fitted over the torso of the patient to be monitored, the electrodes and sensors generate signals in response to the physiologic signs of the patient. The signals are transmitted to a recording/alarm device where they are monitored for adverse conditions and logged. When an adverse condition or other preprogrammed condition occurs, a message is communicated to the patient by either an audio message or a display. The recording/alarm unit is also connectable to a remote receiving unit for monitoring by a health care professional or other machine.

Physiologic signs feedback system

An intelligent, rule-based processor provides recognition of individual pulses in a pulse oximeter-derived photo-plethysmograph waveform. Pulse recognition occurs in two stages. The first stage identifies candidate pulses in the plethysmograph waveform. The candidate pulse stage identifies points in the waveform representing peaks and valleys corresponding to an idealized triangular wave model of the waveform pulses. At this stage, waveform features that do not correspond to this model are removed, including the characteristic dicrotic notch. The second stage applies a plethysmograph model to the candidate pulses and decides which pulses satisfies this model. This is done by first calculating certain pulse features and then applying different checks to identify physiologically acceptable features. Various statistics can then be derived from the resulting pulse information, including the period and signal strength of each pulse and pulse density, which is the ratio of the analyzed waveform segment that has been classified as physiologically acceptable.

Plethysmograph pulse recognition processor

A sports electronic training system with electronic gaming features, and applications thereof, are disclosed. In an embodiment, the system comprises at least one monitor and a portable electronic processing device for receiving data from the at least one monitor and providing feedback to an individual based on the received data. The monitor can be a motion monitor that measures an individual's performance such as, for example, speed, pace and distance for a runner. Other monitors might include a heart rate monitor, a temperature monitor, an altimeter, et cetera. In an embodiment, an input is provided to an electronic game based on data obtained from the at least one monitor that effects, for example, an avatar, a digitally created character, an action within the game, or a game score of the electronic game.

Sports electronic training system with electronic gaming features, and applications thereof

A wrist-mounted device (101) for measuring at least one physiological parameter (Fig. 5) of a subject. The present invention enables such a measurement to preferably be transformed into clinically useful information about the subject. Such information may then optionally be sent to medical personnel (112), for example at a contact and/or monitoring center (114), through a gateway device (110). The gateway device (110) preferably communicates with the wrist-mounted device (101) of the present invention through a wireless communication channel (121).

Method and device for measuring physiological parameters at the wrist

The present invention relates to a non-invasive device for measuring physiological processes. More particularly, it concerns a device that can be applied externally to the body of an animal or human to detect and quantify displacement, force, motion, vibration and acoustic effects resulting from internal biological functions. Specifically, an inexpensive device is disclosed that is compact, light, portable and comfortable, and operates satisfactorily even with imprecise location on the body, ambient noise, motion and light.

Physiological sensing device

A wrist worn heart rate monitor (100) senses a noisy biosignal with one sensor (104A) in contact with the user's finger and another sensor (104B) in contact with the user's wrist. The sensed signal is modified by a filter (112), analog to digital converter (116) and digital filter (264). A correlator (272) and QRS detector (286) are used to determine characteristics of a first segment of the modified signal. A match filter (300) and learned user reference (206) are used to match a second segment of the modified signal with the determined characteristics of the first segment to produce a processed signal. The QRS detector (286), an interval judge (292), and a momentum machine (202) determine the heart rate from the processed signal. A performance predictor (260) predicts how well the heart rate monitor (100) will perform with an individual user.
