Queue management system is designed in organizing queues at service sectors like banks and post offices, which expected to have a large number of customers daily. Conventional ways of managing queues like issuing paper tickets printed with queue number, leads to several problems such as paper tickets littering and also long queueing or waiting time. Therefore, this paper presents the development of a system to manage queues more efficiently and eco-friendly. The proposed system consists of a Graphical User Interface (GUI), which is used to obtain customers’ mobile phone numbers and the processing unit, which generates the queue number and initiate the ticket to be sent to customers’ mobile phones via SMS, thus replacing the utilization of papers. Moreover, this system additional features allow customers to remotely obtain their queue number just by sending request to the system through SMS, and also reminding the upcoming customers that their turns are nearly arriving, a feature which is very useful especially for those who are waiting outside the premise. Simulations and experimental tests were conducted to ensure the reliability and the efficiency of the proposed system. The proposed system is supporting the development of sustainable green technology, and the expected increase of system efficiency may contribute in improving customers’ satisfaction.

Arduino Based Paperless Queue Management System

The Stanford “Lab-In-A-Box” project comprises an open source hardware and software tool chain for teaching signal processing and analog electronics. It is intended to improve the teaching of these concepts by providing a platform that is more open and understandable and by lowering the economic barriers to students interested in the field. To do this, the Lab-In-A-Box brings a full powered Digital Signal Processor (DSP) core to the popular Arduino microcontroller environment and marries it with a simple to use analog front end (AFE). The software platform provided with the Lab-In-A-Box includes an Arduino-like development environment that facilitates learning and quick development of signal processing applications without abstracting away the intricacies of a practical implementation. This system has been used to create several teaching examples and has been tested in courses at Stanford University.

The Lab-In-A-Box project: An Arduino compatible signals and electronics teaching system

In this paper, a drowsiness detection system based on a brain-computer interface (BCI) headset having 3 electrodes is proposed. The headset is mounted on the user’s head to compute the brain wave frequencies. The signal received from BCI headset is processed to remove the external noise. The computed frequencies is then compared by the threshold frequencies of the brain state and a particular decision like whether an individual is in an active state or in a drowsy state can be taken. If an individual is in a drowsy state, a particular alarm is generated on his/her Android phone to wake the person up. An individual user’s sleeping pattern while working is stored on the cloud so that it can be used for analyzing an individual’s brain state while working. This project is proposed with an aim of getting the work done within a particular time period.

Drowsiness Detection and Monitoring the Sleeping Pattern using Brainwaves Technology and IoT

This paper describes an Arduino Due based platform for digital signal processing (DSP) education. The platform consists of an in-house developed shield for robust interfacing with analog audio signals and user inputs, and an off-the-shelf Arduino Due that executes the students' DSP code. This combination enables direct use of the Arduino integrated development environment (IDE), with its low barrier to entry for students, its low maintenance need and cross platform interoperability, and its large user base. Relevant hardware and software features of the platform are discussed throughout, as are design choices made in relation to learning objectives, and the planned use of the platform in our own DSP course.

Role of laboratory setup in project-based learning of freshmen electrical engineering in Pakistan:

This paper describes our efforts to include a hands-on component in the teaching of core concepts of digital signal processing. The basis of our approach was the low-cost and open-source “Stanford Lab in a Box.” This system, with its easy to use Arduino-like programming interface allowed students to see how fundamental DSP concepts such as digital filters, FFT, and multi-rate processing can be implemented in real time on a fixed-point processor. The paper describes how the Lab in a Box was used to provide a new dimension to the teaching of DSP.
