A silver halide photographic material is disclosed, comprising a support having provided thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer, wherein the silver halide emulsion layer contains, in the dispersion medium phase of the emulsion, one or more kinds of inorganic fine particles having a refractive index the total weight of the fine particles contained in the unit volume of the dispersion medium phase is from 1.0 to 95 wt %, the dispersion medium phase containing the fine particles is substantially transparent to the photosensitive peak wavelength light of the emulsion layer, and the photographic material is exposed and processed in the development process comprising at least a developing step and a fixing step.

Silver halide color photographic material

Silver halide emulsions are disclosed in which at least 50 percent of total grain projected area is accounted for by tabular grains (1) bounded by {100} major faces having adjacent edge ratios of less than 10, (2) each having an aspect ratio of at least 2, and (3) internally at their nucleation site containing iodide and at least 50 mole percent chloride. The emulsions are prepared by a process comprised of the steps of (a) introducing silver and halide salts into a dispersing medium so that nucleation of the tabular grains occurs in the presence of iodide with chloride accounting for at least 50 mole percent of the halide present in the dispersing medium and the pCl of the dispersing medium being maintained in the range of from 0.5 to 3.5 and (b) following nucleation completing grain growth under conditions that maintain the {100} major faces of the tabular grains.

Photographic emulsions are disclosed comprised of radiation sensitive silver bromide grains optionally containing iodide. The grains exhibit a face centered cubic crystal lattice structure and are formed in the presence of a hexacoordination complex of rhenium, ruthenium, or osmium with at least four cyanide ligands.

Photographic emulsions containing internally modified silver halide grains

Processes are disclosed which reduce and stabilize the optical density of alkaline earth fluorohalide phosphors. Optical density reducing procedures include contacting the phosphor while molten with bromine or chlorine gas, quenching the molten phosphor and annealing the phosphor in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. Phosphor particles are disclosed having per millimeter optical densities of less than 1.5 when measured as packed powders in a transparent refractive index matching liquid. Monocrystalline elements are disclosed that exhibit per millimeter optical densities of less than 0.2. Optical densities remain stable on storage. Storage phosphor screens constructed of either the particulate or monocrystalline phosphors are disclosed.
