Dissolved organic iodine in marine waters: Determination, occurrence and analytical implications

TL;DR: An analytical scheme for the determination of dissolved organic I, DOI, in marine waters has been designed in this paper, where the concentration of total I is determined as IO 3 − or I − after DOI has been oxidized to Io 3 − quantitatively by UV irradiation and all the inorganic I formed and present initially in the sample have been converted to the appropriate form for detection.
Journal ArticleDOI

The formation of iodide in inshore waters from the photochemical decomposition of dissolved organic iodine

TL;DR: In this article, the half-life of dissolved organic iodine relative to its photochemical decomposition was shown to be on the order of hours at a typical irradiance of 0.5-1 kW m −2 for a noon-day sun under a clear sky.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dissolved organic iodine in marine waters: role in the estuarine geochemistry of iodine.

TL;DR: These concentrations of total I and I- are significantly higher while that of IO3- is noticeably lower than those used presently for estimating global riverine input of these I species to the oceans.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dissolved inorganic and organic iodine in the Chesapeake Bay and adjacent Atlantic waters: Speciation changes through an estuarine system

TL;DR: In this paper, the distributions of iodate, iodide and dissolved organic iodine (DOI) were determined in two deep sub-basins in the Chesapeake Bay, the shallow waters at the mouth of the Bay and the adjacent North Atlantic between the late spring and the early fall along the net flowpath of the water entering and exiting the watershed.
