The traditional ground industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) cannot supply wireless interconnections anywhere due to its small-scale communication coverage. In this article, a multibeam satellite IIoT in Ka-band is proposed to realize wide-area coverage and long-distance transmissions, which uses nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) for each beam to improve transmission rate. To guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) for the satellite IIoT, the beam power is optimized to match the theoretical transmission rate with the service rate. The NOMA transmission rate for each beam is maximized by optimizing the power allocation proportion of each node subject to the constraints of the total power for the beam and the minimal transmission rate for each node within the beam. Satellite-ground integrated IIoT is proposed to use the ground cellular network to supplement the satellite coverage in the blocked areas. The power allocation and network selection for the integrated IIoT are proposed to decrease the transmission cost. Simulation results are provided to validate the superiority of employing NOMA in the satellite IIoT and show higher transmission performance for the QoS-guarantee resource allocation.

QoS-Guarantee Resource Allocation for Multibeam Satellite Industrial Internet of Things With NOMA

In Satellite Internet of Things (SIoT), satellite constellation design is used to satisfy more communication demands with fewer satellites by optimizing satellite orbits in specific areas. However, the diversity of user demands and satellite resource poses a great challenge in evaluating the Quality of Experience (QoE) of the satellite constellation. In this article, a QoE-aware satellite constellation design scheme is proposed to enhance the user satisfaction by constructing QoE factors. First, an SIoT network model is established with low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellites and ground Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and the problem is formulated to calculate the QoE for different areas after analyzing the dynamic network topology. Then, the QoE factors are defined to assess QoE by taking into account the coverage performance, communication fluency, regional demand capacity, and profitability. Following that, an intelligent optimization algorithm named multilayer tabu search (MLTS) is designed to obtain reasonable satellite orbits with the best QoE, which provides orbit parameters for satellite constellation configuration. The simulation results demonstrate that the designed satellite constellation can effectively improve the users QoE by optimizing the various QoE factors.

A review on non-terrestrial wireless technologies for Smart City Internet of Things:

Assume that a multibeam satellite communication system is designed from scratch to serve a particular area with maximal resource utilization and to satisfactorily accommodate the expected traffic demand. The main design challenge here is setting optimal system parameters such as number of serving beams, beam directions and sizes, and transmit power. This paper aims at developing a tool, multibeam satellite traffic simulator, that helps addressing these fundamental challenges, and more importantly, provides an understanding to the spatial-temporal traffic pattern of satellite networks in large-scale environments. Specifically, traffic demand distribution is investigated by processing credible datasets included three major input categories of information: (i) population distribution for broadband Fixed Satellite Services (FSS), (ii) aeronautical satellite communications, and (iii) vessel distribution for maritime services. This traffic simulator combines this three-dimensional information in addition to time, locations of terminals, and traffic demand. Moreover, realistic satellite beam patterns have been considered in this work, and thus, an algorithm has been proposed to delimit the coverage boundaries of each satellite beam, and then compute the heterogeneous traffic demand at the footprint of each beam. Furthermore, another algorithm has been developed to capture the inherent attributes of satellite channels and the effects of multibeam interference. Data-driven modeling for satellite traffic is crucial nowadays to design innovative communication systems, e.g. precoding and beam hopping, and to devise efficient resource management algorithms.

Traffic Simulator for Multibeam Satellite Communication Systems

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a burgeoning paradigm that changes our lives greatly. In many cases, IoT devices are located in remote areas, which can’t be served by terrestrial access networks. As a consequence, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication system may play an important evolution of 5G, and becomes of paramount importance for those scenes relying on its disadvantages. Additionally, the first integration of terrestrial communication and satellite communication in 5G also provides more technical support for the 5G system. Based on the analysis of the special application scenarios and traffic distribution characteristics of LEO satellite based IoT, this paper describes a simulation method for the traffic of LEO satellite based IoT. The simulation result shows that the distribution of business in LEO satellite system has great suddenness and variability both in time and space. Since the non-uniformity is not conducive to the stability of the system, it is necessary to guide the construction of LEO satellite based IoTs according to the distribution characteristics and laws of the business.

Traffic Analysis of LEO Satellite Internet of Things

In recent years, the Internet of Things (IoT) technology has shown a good momentum of development and has been widely used in various fields of society. Satellite IoT, as an important complement and extension of the ground IoT, provides services in areas where oceanic and desert areas cannot build terrestrial IoT base stations. However, due to limited spectrum resources, spectrum sharing between terrestrial IoT and satellite IoT is likely to be required, which will inevitably lead to uplink and downlink co-channel interference between systems. This paper analyzes various interference scenarios that may occur on the uplink and downlink of terrestrial IoT and satellite IoT. Then, we establishes a global dynamic model of interference volume, and obtains the dynamic distribution of global interference of low-orbit satellite IoT through simulation. Finally, the paper uses the low-orbit satellite IoT global interference scenarios, interference distribution model and interference analysis model to obtain the dynamic analysis of the global uplink and downlink interference of the low-orbit satellite IoT, and uses the interference analysis results to give suggestions for the deployment of Low-orbit Satellite IoT.
