Inexpensive and flexible organic resistive memory can be easily fabricated, scaled and stacked Owing to these advantages, organic resistive memory is considered as a very promising technology capable of substituting current inorganic semiconductor-based memory technology It has attracted a lot of attention from the scientific and engineering communities In this mini-review, the recent state-of-the-art developments related to organic small molecules for resistive random-access memory (RRAM) have been emphasized We first describe the general characteristics of RRAM devices, their typical structures, fabrication, classification, and switching mechanisms Next, we discuss the usage of RRAM devices in next-generation computing In particular, we discuss the use of organic small molecules and their composites in RRAM with various functionalities Finally, the current challenges and developing trends of performance improvement for organic small molecule-based RRAM are discussed

Organic small molecule-based RRAM for data storage and neuromorphic computing

The resistance random access memory (RRAM) based on biomaterials, which has the advantages of sustainable, green and environment-friendly, has great potential application in the sustainable electronic devices. Herein, lotus leaves, a very common aquatic herb serve as a dielectric layer, was used to prepare an organic resistive switching memory device with Ag/Lotus leaves/ITO structure for the first time. The biodegradable electronic device demonstrates a nonvolatile resistive switching memory behavior with large resistance ratio and long switching endurance at room temperature. This work exhibits the application prospect of the biomaterials in electronics with the biodegradability and biocompatibility, which provide an effective supplement to the research of organic bio-RRAM.

A nonvolatile organic resistive switching memory based on lotus leaves

Ni-doped ZnS nanoparticles are synthesized by simple hydrothermal process for the utilization in UV photodetectors. Surface morphology of the prepared samples is investigated through high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), which reveals that the prepared nanoparticles are smaller than 20 nm. The well visualized selected area electron diffraction rings suggests the nanocrystalline nature of the prepared nanoparticles with (hkl) planes (111), (220) and (311). The structural analysis is done by x-ray diffraction (XRD) studies; which reveal the decrease in crystallite size with increase in Ni-doping concentration. The device performance of the photodetectors is tested under UV-A light (wavelength ≈365 nm) and found that the ability of the prepared devices increases with increase in Ni-doping concentration. This can be attributed to the enhanced surface to volume ratio and increase in charge carrier concentration. The adsorption-desorption of oxygen molecules on the nanoparticles' surface is considered to be the mechanism for UV photodetection.
