Effects of particle size on the magnetic and microwave absorption properties of carbon-coated nickel nanocapsules

In this review, we discuss new developments and recent trends in both amorphous and crystalline Al2O3 oxide nanofluids related to their phase dependent characteristics in detail. Nowadays, nanofluids have gained significant attention with the enhanced energy/heat efficiency, which is highly desirable to improve the performance of any energy based devices and technology. This review article systematically describes the various chemical synthesis routes followed by bottom-up approaches, surface morphologies, and detailed microstructure characteristics, and phase dependent thermal as well as optical properties for potential use of such materials in various applications.

Phase dependent thermal and spectroscopic responses of Al2O3 nanostructures with different morphogenesis.

The influence of the particle size of an active material on its performance as a supercapacitor electrode was reported. Nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO NPs) with a uniform particle size were synthesized via a facile sol–gel method, and various sizes of NiO NPs (8, 12, and 22 nm) were achieved by calcination at various temperatures (300, 400, and 500 °C). TEM observations and XRD analysis were used to determine the particle size of the NiO NPs. The field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images showed flake-like morphologies, which consisted of interconnected nanoparticles with a porous channel to facilitate the diffusion of the electrolyte. The NiO NPs with an average particle size of 8 nm gave the highest specific capacitance value of 549 F g−1 at a scan rate of 1 mV s−1 compared to the NiO NPs with average particle sizes of 12 and 22 nm. These results suggest that the particle size of the NiO nanostructure plays an important role because of the presence of a higher number of active sites for a faradaic reaction.

Influence of particle size on performance of a nickel oxide nanoparticle-based supercapacitor

Synthesis of wide band gap nanocrystalline NiO powder via a sonochemical method.

NiO nanoparticles with average particle size of 25 nm were successfully prepared by anodic arc plasma method. The composition, morphology, crystal microstructure, specific surface area, infrared spectra, and particle size distribution of product were analyzed by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the corresponding selected area electron diffraction (SAED), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) N2 adsorption. The experiment results show that the NiO nanoparticles are bcc structure with spherical shape and well dispersed, the particle size distribution ranging from 15 to 45nm with the average particle size is about 25 nm, and the specific surface area is 33m2/g. The infrared absorption band of NiO nanoparticles shows blue shifts compared with that of bulk NiO.
