The purpose of this study is to investigate factors affecting student performance in Arab Open University- Kuwait branch To achieve this objective, all graduate students during the academic year 2009-2010 were examined The graduates were 566 students, consisting of 353 female and 213 male students The data were analyzed by using Ordinary Least Square (OLS) multiple regressions The outcome of the analysis revealed that the Grade Point Average (GPA) of the student is affected by age, score of the high school and nationality In addition, the results revealed that younger students perform better than mature students and non-national students perform better than national student The results further revealed that significant gender differences exists, female students perform better than male counterparts in line with a significant number of previous empirical studies More importantly, the results of the analysis indicated that marital status plays a significant role in determining the student's performance by confirming that married students perform better than non-married counterparts

Factors Affecting Business Students' Performance in Arab Open University: The Case of Kuwait

Factors Affecting Academic Performance of Students

Objective: The objective of this study is to examine factors such as the students’ demographic data, motivation, educational factors and socio-cultural factors, and identify whether these factors affect the academic performance of undergraduate medical students.Methods: A cross-sectional study design utilising grade point averages (GPAs) of two cohorts of students in both levels of the pre-clinical phase. In addition, self-administered questionnaire was used to evaluate the effect of these factors on students with poor and good cumulative GPA.Results: Academic performance was significantly affected with factors such as gender, marital status, interest and motivation, and the transportation used to reach the faculty. Academic and socio-demographic factors influencing students’ performance in a new Saudi medical school

Prior researches on the differences in classroom performance between male and female students show mixed results. While significant differences exist in some studies, others show no differences. Moreover, such studies were done in developed countries. This study aims to contribute to this gender discourse by using a developing country setting. It was hypothesized in this study that no differences exist between male and female performance in undergraduate accounting courses. The finding of this study reveals that there is no significant difference between academic performance of male and female accounting students in undergraduate accounting courses, although the males achieve a higher mean performance than their female counterpart in all the courses.

Academic Performance of Male versus Female Accounting Undergraduate Students: Evidence from Nigeria

Objective To compare the academic performance of male and female medical students in Pharmacology examinations. Methods The comparative study was conducted at Rehman Medical College, Peshawar, Pakistan, from March to August 2015. For evaluating the students' academic performance, male and female students of academic sessions 2013-14 and 2014-15 were divided into 4 groups. Group 1: 80% marks. SPSS 20 was used for data analysis. Results Of the 200 medical students enrolled, 102(51%) were male and 98(41%) were female. There was no significant difference in the academic performance in terms of gender in multiple choice questions (p=0.811) and short essay questions (p=0.515). The effect of attendance was also insignificant (p=0.130). Significant difference was found between the academic records of urban male and female students compared to rural students (p=0.038). Boarder students' results were insignificantly different from those of day scholars (p=0.887). Conclusions There was no significant difference between the academic performance of male and female students.

Academic performance of male in comparison with female undergraduate medical students in Pharmacology examinations.

Discovering the effective factors in agricultural students’ academic success was the aim of this study. The statistical population consisted of all 194 junior agriculture students at the University of Tehran. The study is of a correlation type with the information being gathered through questionnaires as well as through a study of students’ academic files. There was a positive significant correlation observed (P= 0.01) between academic success, on the one hand, and high school grade point average (GPA), study hours, planning for study, motivation, and emotional atmosphere of educational environment, on the other hand. The level of confidence between academic success, on one hand, and the family’s attitude towards studies and years of experience in teaching, on the other, being also significant (p= 0.05). Female students were found to be more successful than males. There was no significant difference observed between the academic success of students in residences and those who lived with their parents. Students with agronomy majors were shown to have a higher academic success as compared to students majoring in other eleven majors within the agricultural faculty. The results of regression analysis also demonstrated that 63.5 percent of the variations in the dependent variable academic success were expressed through high school grade point average (GPA), motivation, method of learning, father’s level of education, and the emotional atmosphere of the educational environment.

Factors Affecting the Academic Success of Agricultural Students at University of Tehran, Iran

The present study investigated the effect of Iranian university entrance examinations and the high school grade point average (HSGPA) on agriculture students' achievement. The population included 598 admitted students at the Faculties of Agriculture and Natural Resources, University of Tehran. The specific variables of the study included college grade point average (CGPA) and average of major field specialized courses (FSGPA) as dependent variables. Also, scores in mathematics, physics, biology, and chemistry at the university entrance examinations record (UEX), along with high school grade point average (HSGPA) were the independent variables of the study. The results indicated that high school grade point average (HSGPA) was a significant predictor of agriculture students’ academic achievement. With the exception of Food Sciences, there was no significant relationship between the scores in mathematics and students’ academic achievement in fields related to agriculture.
