In a apparatus for aspirating material into an opening into a passage and along the passage, the apparatus has at least one additional opening or orifice for admitting (pre-aspirating) a fluid into the passage. The fluid facilitates aspirating the material along the passage and thus is preferably adjacent the opening through which the material enters the passage to facilitate the aspiration all along the passage. The apparatus is particularly for surgical use. In surgical uses the material to be aspirated contains blood which tends to coagulate in the passage and block it. The fluid which enters the passage through the orifice then dilutes the blood to reduce coagulation, lubricates the passage for better material flow therealong, and flushes the material along the passage.

Surgical pre-aspirator

The method of aspirating body tissue and blood from a surgical site along a suction passage having a suction port at an ultrasonically vibrated end of a tool for fragmenting the tissue at the surgical site is improved by introducing an anti-coagulant fluid into the suction passage independently of the suction port.

Method of use of an ultrasonic surgical pre-aspirator having a orifice by-pass

A wet carpet cleaning apparatus having a nozzle movable over the surface to be cleaned. Structure is associated with the nozzle for selectively delivering cleaning liquid to a cleaning portion of the nozzle. A suction apparatus is removably mounted to the nozzle for removing liquid including dirt-laden water from the surface being cleaned. The suction apparatus comprises a removable suction fan or blower module which may be employed to advantage in a number of other applications. A jet pump is associated with the nozzle for discharging removed dirt-laden liquid as to a drain. The cleaning liquid is obtained from a pressurized water supply through an elongated flexible duct and the discharge to drain is through an elongated flexible duct which may be of similar construction. Manually controlled structure is provided for selectively introducing detergent into the cleaning liquid to permit selective cleaning and rinsing operations with the supplied pressurized water. The jet pump is operated by the pressurized water to effect the suction removal of the dirt-laden liquid from a collecting chamber in the nozzle to the drain duct. An auxiliary wand structure may be provided with a nozzle for cleaning elevated surfaces, such as furniture, steps, etc. An auxiliary scrubbing brush and an auxiliary squeegee may be mounted to the nozzle such as for cleaning hard floor surfaces.

Wet carpet cleaning apparatus

The method of aspirating body tissue and blood from a surgical site along a suction passage having a suction port at an ultrasonically vibrated end of a tool for fragmenting the tissue at a surgical site is improved by introducing an irrigation fluid into the suction passage independently of the suction port.

Method for preventing clogging of a surgical aspirator

This apparatus has a unitary, flexible hose assembly with an inner hose for discharging fuel or other liquid under pressure into a tank to agitate its contents and an outer hose for withdrawing the liquid and entrained impurities from the tank. A pump and filters on a wheeled cart are detachably connected to the opposite end of the hose assembly to continuously recirculate and clean the liquid without intermediate storage of the liquid before it is returned to the tank. The discharge end of the inner hose and a nozzle thereon project several inches beyond the inlet end of the outer hose. An adjustable valve introduces air into the recirculated liquid stream between the outer hose and the pump inlet to increase the turbulence effect inside the tank. For the same purpose the outer hose may be formed with one or more openings near its inlet end.

Tank cleaning apparatus

A device for removing a sludge from the surface of a liquid or from a floor such as a deck of a tanker includes a shovel which is adapted to be moved along the sludge with its opened mouth positioned to receive the sludge. The construction includes a connection for directing a high velocity liquid jet into the shovel in the vicinity of the mouth to impinge upon the sludge and to break it up into a slurry and, in addition, means are provided for withdrawing the slurry upwardly through a conduit for discharge at a remote location. The discharging connection advantageously includes a liquid ejector which is operated partly by the conduit connected for supplying the high velocity jet of liquid to the shovel and which is connected to the shovel for providing a withdrawing suction or pumping action on the slurry which is formed in the shovel. In a further embodiment, the interior of the shovel is provided with a screen or grate across the shovel interior onto which the slurry is directed and against which the high velocity liquid jet is directed. The action breaks up the slurry elements into finer elements for withdrawal through the discharge conduit. A still further embodiment includes an intermediate chamber at the rear of the shovel which is adapted to receive the slurry after it is first acted upon by the high velocity jet and which includes a plurality of turning water streams which are directed in a whirling flow to cause a rotation and further pulverizing of the slurry material before it is delivered through the discharge conduit.
