A system, method and computer program product for managing documents. The system includes an image forming apparatus configured to display interactive menus so as to allow an operator of the image forming apparatus to interact with a document manager. The display interactive menus are downloaded from the document manager to the image forming apparatus based on a request by the operator. The document manager is configured to search for application services providers (ASPs) over a network and based on operator inputs. The document manager can search documents within the ASPs, retrieve documents and URLs, store documents and data. The system can provide basic and/or customized interactive menus displayed on the screen of the image forming apparatus.

System, computer program product and method for managing documents

Methods and apparatus for enabling collaboration with web pages and other resources is described. A method includes the step of establishing a collaboration session between a first client and a second client. A requested resource is cached with the session host in response to a request having a first uniform resource locator (URL) issued by the first client, if the requested resource is a pre-determined type of resource. A second URL is provided to the second client. The second URL identifies the requested resource or the cached resource in accordance with whether the requested resource is cached. Apparatus for enabling collaboration includes a web server, a cache, and a filter. The web server provides a requested web page in response to a first client's request. The filter stores the requested web page in the cache, if the requested web page is a pre-determined type of web page. A number of pre-determined characteristics for caching are described in various embodiments of the methods and apparatus. In one embodiment, the requested resource is cached if it is a dynamic web page. In one embodiment an expiration date of the requested resource determines whether the requested resource should be cached. In another embodiment, a filename associated with the requested resource determines whether the requested resource should be cached. In another embodiment, components of the request determine whether the requested web page should be cached.

Scalable architecture for web services

A system and method for allowing an Internet user to create a web page which may simultaneously display public and private data as integrated data on one digital screen or other network interface device. Integrated data may derive from at least one internal content provider, but may also include data from one or more external content providers. The invention also allows an internal content provider to create a personal profile of a user, based on proprietary data stores of the internal content provider and/or on the user's choices of data for viewing on a web page. Finally, the invention allows an internal content provider to use the personal profile to personalize the user's experience on the provider's web site.

System and method for integrating public and private data

A network-based URL management and data gathering system is provided. The system utilizes a client-side utility for capturing URLs during normal Web browsing, and a server-side utility for organizing and managing the captured URLs on the network. The server-side utility periodically sends a request to a proxy browsing and data gathering utility for navigating to and retrieving data from Web pages associated with the captured URLs. Data retrieved from the Web pages is returned in summary form for presentation to subscribing users. In preferred embodiments, the system is practiced on the Internet network between users operating an Internet-capable appliance having an Internet connection, and an Internet portal service.

Network-based bookmark management and web-summary system

This technical note introduces IBM's WebEntree, a single-log-in Web service aggregator. WebEntree provides an aggregated Web service on top of distributed Web service systems (as components) with a centralized access control and content customization facility. Each service system can have its own access control facility and provide its own independent service. WebEntree implements a flexible and dynamic component-bundling mechanism, and can provide personalized service with user-selected component sets. WebEntree offers a convenient way for new components to be "plugged in" and "played." The owner of the aggregated Web service can keep each component's original branding, add more information, filter out certain content, or customize the presentations. WebEntree also provides a single user registration and authentication interface for all of its user-selectable service components. WebEntree currently accommodates Web service components invoked via HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP, i.e., under a Web server) and service components invoked directly from local or remote application programming interfaces. Other component interfaces are planned.
