Literature on supply chain management (SCM) covers several disciplines and is growing rapidly. This paper firstly aims at extracting the essence of SCM and advanced planning in the form of two conceptual frameworks: The house of SCM and the supply chain planning matrix. As an illustration, contributions to this feature issue will then be assigned to the building blocks of the house of SCM or to the modules covering the supply chain planning matrix. Secondly, focusing on software for advanced planning, we outline its main shortcomings and present latest research results for their resolution.

Supply chain management and advanced planning: basics, overview and challenges

The prospect of the fishery sector becomes one of strategic economic activities, in which the government implements fisheries industrialization as a strategy to enhance added values of fishery production. The fishing industry is unique since it exploits fish as the main raw material naturally available and accessible by humans. Moreover, the capture fishing industry is relatively a high cost economy. This study was aimed at designing the regional-based institutional and network models of the fishing industry in order to achieve the sustainable fishing industry in Maluku province. The research employed Soft System Methodology to obtain an ideal model for the management of the sustainable capture fishing industry. Structure identification in designing the institutional model for a supply chain system of the sustainable fishing industry was carried out using the Interpretative Structural Modelling (ISM). Meanwhile, TOPSIS was involved in establishing a model for the fishing industry. The results show the institution that would be developed was a financial institution (cooperative) that would be managed and run by fishermen. The capture fishing industrial network in Maluku province was built by actualizing PPN Ambon as a main server in the route of PPI Masarette – PPI Eri – PPN Ambon. While Amahai would act as a main server for the route of PPN Tual – PPI Amahai and PPI East Tahme – PPI Amahai.

In the context of logistics management, FMCG companies generally have a large amount of transportation, products, and distributors. A large number of distributors operating separately has the potential for misinformation provided to the company. There is a need for a logistics information system to integrate information and operations in real-time to solve problems and make the right and fast decisions. The use of information technology such as Internet of things-based applications is increasingly needed for innovation in the development of logistics processes because it can speed up processes and reduce costs. However, there are risks and challenges in applying IoT technology to the system including human resources, technological capabilities and, so companies must prepare investment costs to meet the needs of implementing the new technology. An economic feasibility assessment is needed to assess whether the investment can benefit the company. This study uses the calculation of Net Present Value (NPV), Payback Period (PP), Return on Investment (RDI), and Profitability Index (PI).

Supply chain requirements and challenges in recent years have made managers to explore new methods in dealing with supply chain management problems. Methods with high flexibility which can adapt plans to real conditions help one to make a decision at the right time. In the supply chain management, distribution and allocation problems are of enormous significance and due to their applications in the cross-functional and final parts of supply chain management problems, they are in a particular position among the supply chain management problems. In this paper, the problems of logistics supply chain coordination are studied based on the multi-agent system in order to effectively process distributed large scale data. The logistics supply chain coordination based on multi-agent system increases the level of flexibility in the supply chain and enables supply chain members to be more responsive.

One main issue of logistics supply chain management is to find suitable optimized design mechanisms when a corporation decides to open and operate its warehouses and cross-docks and expend huge financial sums to open its best set of cross-docks and warehouses, the other main issue of logistics supply chain management is the effective operating management of the logistical supply chain processes that are controlled by various independent companies in order to achieve overall minimal cost after the corporation had opened and operated its warehouses and cross-docks. Suitable combinatorial optimized logistics supply chain design mechanisms and effective operating management method are considered for the problems of the logistics supply chain management in this paper.

Supply chain is susceptible to a diverse set of risks for every company. In general terms, risks affecting a supply chain are related to the chance, in quantitative terms, of a defined hazard occurring. Supply chain risks involve probabilistic measures of the occurrences of particular events with an associated measure of the consequences of the events. Interest in supply chain management has also been growing in the international fishery industry both in developed and developing countries. Supply chains are increasingly vulnerable to catastrophic events such as hurricanes or terrorist attacks. Modern international fishery related company are more exposed to catastrophes and the result of their investments are made to operate supply chains with fewer human and capital resources. Along with the occurrence of several catastrophic events in international fishery supply chains, international fishery risk diversity and insurance problems become more and more important. In this paper, the problems of international international fishery supply chain risk management and insurance is considered.
