Synthesis and liquid crystal properties of a new class of calamitic mesogens based on substituted 2,5‐diaryl‐1,3,4‐thiadiazole derivatives with wide mesomorphic temperature ranges

TL;DR: In this article, the properties of substituted 2,5−diaryl−1,3,4−thiadiazole derivatives (1a−1f, 3a and 3b) were investigated by polarised-light optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and in-situ variable-temperature X-ray diffraction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synthesis and comparative study of the heterocyclic rings on liquid crystalline properties of 2,5-aryl-1,3,4-oxa(thia)diazole derivatives containing furan and thiophene units

TL;DR: A series of heterocyclic liquid crystalline compounds containing 1,3,4-oxadiazole/thiadiazoles, furan and thiophene units were synthesized and characterised by means of electrospray ionisation-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), high-resolution mass spectroscopy (HRMS), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and 13C NMR as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synthesis, crystal structures, mesomorphic and photo-luminescent properties of 1,3,4-thia(oxa)diazole-based compounds with a terminal methoxy or methylthio group

TL;DR: A series of aromatically 2,5-disubstituted 1,3,4-thia(oxa)diazoles with a terminal methoxy or methylthio group were synthesized and characterized by means of 1H NMR, 13C NMR and elemental analysis as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

A novel photochromic liquid crystal system based on biindenylidenedione derivatives

TL;DR: In this article, a class of photochromic biindenylidenedione derivatives containing two mesogenic biphenyl units connected with flexible alkyl chains were designed and synthesized.
Journal ArticleDOI

Insights into the reaction of trans-diarylethenes with thionyl chloride: a practical synthesis of chlorobenzo[b]thiophenes

TL;DR: The reactivity of trans-1,2-diarylethenes with thionyl chloride has been investigated in this article, showing that they can be converted into cholobenzo[b]thiophenes in moderate yields and a pair of threo-and erythro-1 2 -dichloro-1 1,2diarylethanes as minor products under mild condition.
