Construction and built environment in circular economy: A comprehensive literature review

Industrial Ecology (IE) can be applied in four interrelated study areas: industrial ecosystem, Industrial Symbiosis (IS), industrial metabolism (IM) and legislation and regulations for IE applications . Different methods can be used to determine the boundary of an industrial ecosystem: material-based, product-based and geographic-based. IS applications have shifted from a self-organising to planned or facilitated practice. IM establishes its position within IE in quantifying the efficiency and rates of material, waste and energy exchanges over the total corresponding flow to evaluate the closed-loop status of an industrial ecosystem. Legislation and regulations on waste need to reflect the IE’s view of waste as resources. The integration of these four areas is critical to the success of IE applications to fulfil its potential to improve environmental sustainability.

In the research, management strategies and problems of eco-industrial parks were mainly analyzed and some suggestions were proposed based on eco-in- dustrial park, circular economy and ecologization of industrial park in China, providing references for ecologica~ization policy design of industrial parks in China.

El establecimiento del modelo economico en funcion del desarrollo sostenible en respuesta a las actuales condiciones ambientales, es una necesidad irrefutable en la actualidad. Sin embargo, entre otras razones, su implementacion completa aun no se lleva a cabo porque hasta ahora no existe un sistema desarrollado que contemple la determinacion de indicadores ambientales y el uso de habilidades de gestion. Esta contribucion cientifica se enfoca en proyectar una revision bibliografica que expone las herramientas de administracion ambiental en la economia de Sur America. Para alcanzar este proposito se auxilia del programa computacional ¨Publish or Perish¨ el cual permite identificar las investigaciones mas representativas y consultadas en la tematica abordada. Como resultado de la investigacion se muestran el grupo de herramientas de administracion economica en funcion de bunas practicas ecologicas, en America del Sur.

Herramientas de administración ambiental en la economía de Sur América

Industrial Symbiosis (IS), a study area within Industrial Ecology (IE), focuses on the knowledge web establishment of novel exchanges for synergies among companies to develop industrial ecosystems. Three types of IS applications have been explored in the literature: regional community -based IS, national IS programmes and eco-industrial parks (EIPs) . These IS applications have offered valuable lessons. Critical success factors drawn from these practices are: an IS coordinating centre , economic and environmental gains in the vision, a large database of knowledge webs for potential symbiotic exchanges, early involvement of participating companies, and government investment at the start. IS applications need not be restricted by geographic proximity. Industrial clusters also need to be transformed into eco-industrial clusters. The transformation requires planned and facilitated IS and long-term vision.

Applications of Industrial Symbiosis

Eco-industrial park is the carrier of circular economy in industrial zone. A lot of the theory and practice of eco-industrial park to carry out in China. The methods and representations, showing systematically the environmental benefit through ecologically construction of Eco-industrial park, are the important parts of the Eco-industrial park administration system. Environmental performance evaluation could systematically manifest the whole configuration of construction of Eco-industrial park, from different points of view from park administrators, enterprises, and publics. This paper discussed the significance of environmental performance evaluation for Eco-industrial park in China, introduced the current application status and development trend of environmental performance evaluation in the administration of Eco-industrial park in China.

The Application of Environmental Performance Evaluation in the Administration of Eco-Industrial Park in China

Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) is one of the most important practice forms of industrial ecology theory. Since the late 1990s EIP was introduced to China, many traditional industrial parks got down to construct EIPs. Represented by the National Eco-industrial Demonstration Parks (NEDPs), there were 85 parks passed the review of NEDPs construction planning, and 26 parks were named by NEDPs. In developing of the EIPs in China, there was still lack of clear and accurate understanding of the concept and connotation of EIPs. Based on the summary and analysis of the representative EIP definitions by domestic and foreign scholars, in combination with the practical situation of the industrial structure adjustment and industrial park development in China, this study put forward the three main points of EIP connotation. That meant that the coordinate development of the second industry and third industry; the construction of eco-industrial chain; the coordination development of economy and environment.

Study of Eco-Industrial Park Concept and Connotation

The eco-industrial park policies in China including central and local ones are inadequate to support and regulate the construction of EIP. Based on the practical construction demands, this article establish the EIP policy system, which is divided into four levels, including EIP policy system, macro guidance policy, management, construction and security policy and specific branches segment policies in every aspect.
