Reproduction of Mucohaemorrhagic Diarrhea and Colitis Indistinguishable from Swine Dysentery following Experimental Inoculation with “Brachyspira hampsonii” Strain 30446
Joseph E. Rubin,Matheus O. Costa,Janet E. Hill,Heather E. Kittrell,Champika Fernando,Yanyun Huang,Brendan O'Connor,John C. S. Harding +7 more
TL;DR: “Brachyspira hampsonii” strain 30446 causes mucohaemorrhagic diarrhea in pigs following a 4–9 day incubation period, and culture and 30446-specific qPCR are reliable methods of detection of this organism in feces and tissues of diarrheic pigs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Respiratory viruses identified in western Canadian beef cattle by metagenomic sequencing and their association with bovine respiratory disease
Maodong Zhang,Janet E. Hill,Champika Fernando,Trevor W. Alexander,Edouard Timsit,Frank van der Meer,Yanyun Huang +6 more
TL;DR: This study reported several viruses for the first time in Canada and provides a basis for further studies investigating candidate viruses important to the prevention of BRD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Zika Virus Causes Persistent Infection in Porcine Conceptuses and may Impair Health in Offspring
Joseph Darbellay,Brian J. Cox,Ken Lai,Mario Delgado-Ortega,Colette Wheler,Donald Wilson,Stewart Walker,Gregory Starrak,Duncan Hockley,Yanyun Huang,George Mutwiri,Andrew Potter,Andrew Potter,Matthew W. Gilmour,David Safronetz,Volker Gerdts,Volker Gerdts,Uladzimir Karniychuk,Uladzimir Karniychuk,Uladzimir Karniychuk +19 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that porcine model of persistent in utero ZIKV infection has a strong potential for translational research and can be used to test therapeutic interventions in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
The pulmonary virome, bacteriological and histopathological findings in bovine respiratory disease from western Canada
TL;DR: Results show that while virus detection in post‐mortem lung samples is of relatively little diagnostic value, the strong associations of H. somni and M. haemolytica with SBP and FBP indicate that histopathology can be useful in differentiating bacterial aetiologies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic investigation of porcine periweaning failure-to-thrive syndrome lack of compelling evidence linking to common porcine pathogens
TL;DR: A diagnostic investigation was undertaken to identify the pathological lesions of, and infectious agents associated with, pigs demonstrating typical clinical signs, and it was concluded that there is a lack of compelling evidence that PFTS is caused by any of these pathogens.
