The enhanced thermal neutron target at the RPI linac

Abstract: In order to increase the thermal neutron flux at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) linac, a new target was designed and constructed. The target was designed in two phases. In phase 1, a new optimized room-temperature enhanced thermal target (ETT) was designed, constructed, and successfully used. In the second phase, a cold moderator system was designed to be coupled to the ETT to achieve additional subthermal neutron intensity.
