Biosorption characteristics of methylene blue and malachite green from simulated wastewater onto Carica papaya wood biosorbent

Recent rapid growth of the world's population has increased food demands. This phenomenon poses a great challenge for food manufacturers in maximizing the existing food or plant resources. Nowadays, the recovery of health benefit bioactive compounds from fruit wastes is a research trend not only to help minimize the waste burden, but also to meet the intensive demand from the public for phenolic compounds which are believed to have protective effects against chronic diseases. This review is focused on polyphenolic compounds recovery from tropical fruit wastes and its current trend of utilization. The tropical fruit wastes include in discussion are durian (Durio zibethinus), mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.), rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum), mango (Mangifera indica L.), jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), papaya (Carica papaya), passion fruit (Passiflora edulis), dragon fruit (Hylocereus spp), and pineapple (Ananas comosus). Highlights of bioactive compounds in different parts of a tropical fruit are targeted primarily for food industries as pragmatic references to create novel innovative health enhancement food products. This information is intended to inspire further research ideas in areas that are still under-explored and for food processing manufacturers who would like to minimize wastes as the norm of present day industry (design) objective.

The history and clinical assessment of children with symptoms, which may be associated with otitis media, are used to differentiate between AOM, OME and non-otological pathology. Almost half of these children will have three or more ear infections during their first 3 years. It is estimated that medical costs and lost wages because of otitis media amount to $5 billion a year in the United States. Although otitis media is primarily a disease of infants and young children, it can also affect adults.

An updated review on otitis media

Carica papaya Linn. is a natural health food that has been used commercially. In the present study we evaluate the anticonvulsant activity of fruit juice on MES induced epilepsy at two different doses 237.5 mg/kg/p.o. and 200 mg/kg/p.o. showed significant (p<0.01, p<0.05) results. In the phytochemical investigation the fruit juice contains alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, anthraquinone glycosides, cardiac glycosides, reducing sugar, saponins, steroids, tannins and triterpenoids. The fruit juice was found to be safe in the doses used and there was no mortality up to a dose of 200 mg/kg, b.w. Because of this the LD50 for fruit juice was considered as 2 g/kg body weight and the ED50 (1/10 th dose LD50) for these extract was taken as 200 mg/kg and 237.5 mg/kg. In the present study the antioxidant parameters TBARS, GSH, Total protein were also be examined. The oral administration of the juice significantly (p<0.01) decreased the elevated of TBARS level in the mice brain. The GSH level was decreased in the mice brain. The CPJ increased total protein activity in the mice brain. These results show that the fruit juice has antioxidant actions.
