A staple forming and driving tool for forming staple wires fed from a staple belt into staples and driving such staples into a workpiece comprising a driver, a former positioned to be driven by the driver, a former block and a sheath, all of which parts are held to a stationary stapler head by means of a single spring. The driver blade, former, sheath and stapler head have generally planar portions positioned in parallel planes and are held in contact with one another by the spring. In the event of jamming, the spring may give permitting the sheath to move away from the fixed stapler head, thus providing space for ejection of one or more jammed staples or staple blanks. Upon correction of the jamming, the parts promptly reassume their proper position under the urging of the spring and the device is ready for operation once again.

Staple forming and driving machine

A stapler having improved stapling precision is provided. In a preferred embodiment, a stapler has a magazine (1) with a staple driving unit (3), and a staple clinching unit (4) wherein the magazine (1) and the staple clinching unit (4) are separately disposed. The magazine (1) of the stapler is provided with a actuation linkage and guides which cause the magazine (1) having the staple driving unit (3) to consistently move in a substantially vertical direction with respect to the staple clinching unit (4), so that a staple driven thereby is driven in a direction substantially perpendicular to sheets of paper (27) to be stapled, regardless of the thickness of the paper (27). In a variant of the preferred embodiment, the stapler (100) is incorporated in another unit where the stapler (100) is moved from one operating position to another. In order to maintain the alignment of the separately disposed magazine (1) and staple clinching unit (4), alignment members (44) are provided on either a frame (32) supporting the magazine (1) or a frame (36) supporting the clinching unit (4), or on both. Accordingly, the present invention improves stapling precision and avoids poor quality stapling, especially due to poor alignment between the staple driving unit (3) and the staple clinching (4) unit.

A stapler with improved stapling precision

A tagging apparatus for attaching tags to plants includes a frame member, a holding/clamping member operably connected to the frame member for holding a tag, and a first jaw movably mounted on the frame member. The first jaw is adapted to close against a second jaw on the frame member, with the jaws including surfaces forming an opening adapted to enclose a plant stem/branch when closed. A pneumatically driven mechanism is attached to the frame member and is adapted to grip and advance a strip of flexible material onto the surfaces so that the surfaces direct the strip of flexible material around the opening means to form a loop around the plant stem/branch. The apparatus also includes a pneumatically powered cutter and stapler mechanism attached to the frame member for cutting the strip from a roll of strip material and then for stapling the strip of flexible material in the loop around the stem/branch and to the tag to thus permanently retain the tag to the stem/branch. In the preferred form, the apparatus is a portable, hand-held unit.

Plant tagging apparatus

A staple fastener applying machine comprises a base on which is mounted a first support that pivotally supports a driver arm carrying a driver and a holder arm holding a staple magazine, the driver arm being actuatable for angular movement toward the base by a solenoid mounted on the base so as to force the driver toward a clinching anvil carried on a second support mounted on the base. Staple fasteners stored in the magazine are fed one at a time into the path of movement of the driver for being driven thereby. The solenoid is located remotely from the second support to provide a relatively large space around the second support such that the machine can handle a relatively bulky object for staple applying operation. The driver and holder arms are spring-biased away from each other, but are prevented from moving apart beyond a certain angular spacing between them. The driver arm is spring-biased to pivotally move away from the base, such pivotal movement being limited within a certain angle between the driver arm and the base.

Staple fastener applying machine

A strip of fasteners may be provided with connecting portions between individual fasteners. Each individual fastener may include a body portion and at least one nail portion. The body portion may include at least a pair of leg members spaced from one another in a first direction and a crown portion joining the at least a pair of leg members. The nail portion may include an elongated shaft portion having a shaft portion central longitudinal axis and an elongated head portion attached to one end of the shaft portion. The elongated head portion may have a head portion central longitudinal axis that is transverse to the shaft portion central longitudinal axis. In a method of manufacturing the strip of fasteners, the nails may be simultaneously inserted into each fastener body portion. In a tool for installing fasteners, a pivot member may be provided to prevent jamming.

An electric stapler apparatus comprising an electromagnet provided on the rear undersurface of a base mount and constituting an operating power source, a staple driving lever adapted to be moved upwardly and downwardly by the electromagnet, the forward end portion thereof fixedly securing a staple driving hammer and the rear end thereof being mounted pivotally on the rear portion of the base mount, a staple guide casing positioned in a floating relationship above the base mount, said casing containing inside of the forward end portion thereof U-shaped staples and pivotally mounted at the rear end thereof on the rear portion of the base mount, and a staple clinching anvil rotatably mounted on the front upper surface of the base mount and provided with a pair of staple clinching grooves for clinching inwardly the staples on the upper surface of a flat anvil portion and another pair of staple clinching grooves for clinching the staples outwardly.
