One-dimensional carbon nanotubes and two-dimensional graphene nanosheets with unique electrical, mechanical and thermal properties are attractive reinforcements for fabricating light weight, high strength and high performance metal-matrix composites. Rapid advances of nanotechnology in recent years enable the development of advanced metal matrix nanocomposites for structural engineering and functional device applications. This review focuses on the recent development in the synthesis, property characterization and application of aluminum, magnesium, and transition metal-based composites reinforced with carbon nanotubes and graphene nanosheets. These include processing strategies of carbonaceous nanomaterials and their composites, mechanical and tribological responses, corrosion, electrical and thermal properties as well as hydrogen storage and electrocatalytic behaviors. The effects of nanomaterial dispersion in the metal matrix and the formation of interfacial precipitates on these properties are also addressed. Particular attention is paid to the fundamentals and the structure–property relationships of such novel nanocomposites.

Process for electrodeposition preparation of orientated short fiber reinforced metal -base composite materials

With a slight modification of typical seed-mediated synthesis of gold nanoparticles (GNPs), a wide range of aspect ratios for nanorods, spherical and dumbbell-like GNPs were synthesized. Their unique optical properties such as localized surface plasmon resonance related to the distinct morphologies were investigated. On the basis of the preparation condition for short gold nanorods (GNRs), by varying the amounts of ascorbic acid, the morphological transition from rod to dumbbell occurred and the growth mechanism was proposed. Compared with conventional iodine-based contrast agents, GNPs exhibited preferable x-ray CT imaging effect, and are good candidates for x-ray CT contrast agents in biomedical applications.

The invention relates to a preparation method of a nickel-based or titanium-based catalytic electrode for electrically catalyzing ammonia oxides in the technical field of electro-catalysis, comprising the following steps of: mechanically polishing a nickel-based or titanium-based board to remove oxides on the surface of the nickel-based or titanium-based board; respectively carrying out ultrasonic oscillation in alcohol and deionized water to remove surface pollutants; connecting a conducting wire to prepare a working electrode used in the process of electrochemical deposition; forming a three-electrode system by using the working electrode, a counter electrode and a reference electrode, wherein a platinum electrode is used as the counter electrode, and a saturated calomel electrode is used as the reference electrode, and then carrying out electrochemical deposition in an aqueous solution; and introducing nitrogen to the solution in the process of electrochemical deposition to finally prepare the catalytic electrode which uses nickel or titanium as a base board and is used for electrically catalyzing the ammonia oxides. The invention can greatly reduce the cost of the catalytic electrode for electrically catalyzing the ammonia oxides and enable the catalytic electrode for electrically catalyzing the ammonia oxides to have favorable performance of electrically catalyzing the ammonia oxides.

The in-situ liquid self-lubricating metal-based composite material effectively reduces the friction coefficient, prolongs the service life, and improves the controllability on the lubricating effect.
