A logistics model for emergency supply of critical items in the aftermath of a disaster
TL;DR: The results show that the proposed model outperforms theirs in terms of delivering prioritized items over several time periods and is compared with that proposed in a recent paper by Balcik et al.
Journal ArticleDOI
Location of temporary depots to facilitate relief operations after an earthquake
TL;DR: A two-phase heuristic approach is proposed; it locates temporary depots and allocates covered demand points to an open depot in Phase I, and explores the best logistics performance under the given solution from Phase I in Phase II.
Journal ArticleDOI
A decomposition-based approach for the selection of standardized modular containers
Abstract: The standardisation of packaging and containers for product handling has potential benefits from transportation, material handling and environmental perspectives. Likewise, standardised modular containers play an important role in the Physical Internet (PI). To support implementation of standard modular containers, we introduce a mathematical model to select a requisite number of modular containers to pack a set of products to maximise space utilisation. A decomposition-based solution methodology is developed and presented. Computational results from industry-based problem instances indicate that using standardised modular containers results in increased space utilisation at the unit load level. This finding substantiates the use of modular containers in moving toward the PI.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Impact of Standardized Metric Physical Internet Containers on the Shipping Volume of Manufacturers
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a mathematical model to determine the impact of limiting the choice of containers on the amount of volume that is shipped by a consumer packaged goods company in the physical Internet.
A logistics model for delivery of critical items in a disaster relief operation: heuristic approaches y
TL;DR: In this paper, a tour-based multi-objective logistics model for optimized scheduling of critical items in a disaster relief operation is proposed, which considers multi-items, multi-vehicles, multiperiods, and a split delivery scenario in the disaster.
