The present disclosure relates to a double-wall construction for an engine exhaust conduit (22). The construction includes an inner conduit (22i) and an outer conduit (22a) surrounding the inner conduit. An insulating annular gap (23) is defined between the inner (22i) and outer (22o) conduits. A spacer structure maintains the gap between the inner and outer conduits. The spacer structure (5) can be unitary with at one of the inner and outer conduits (22i, 22o).

Construction for an engine exhaust system component

The present disclosure relates to an access joint for an engine exhaust system. The access joint includes first (22) and second (24) exhaust conduits each having a conduit body (22, 24) and a flange (F1, F2) unitary with the conduit body. The flanges (F1, F2) have first surfaces that face toward one another and second surfaces that face away from one another. The joint also includes a clamp (44) having a channel that receives the flanges (F1, F2) and that compresses the flanges (F1, F2) toward one another when the clamp is tightened.

A flexible tube includes a bellows tube, an interlock tube placed inside the bellows tube, and upstream-side and downstream-side joint pipes coupled to opposite ends of the bellows tube. Diameters of fixing end portions located at opposite ends of the interlock tube are made larger than a diameter at a middle portion of the interlock tube, extension portions of the upstream-side and downstream-side joint pipes are fitted and fixed to inner peripheral surfaces of the fixing end portions of the interlock tube, and a depth of each of valley portions of a bellows portion of the bellows tube located over the fixing end portions is smaller than a depth of other valley portions of the bellows portion. Accordingly, it is possible to achieve the downsizing of the flexible tube that is connected to an exhaust system being continuous with an engine to dampen vibrations in the axial direction of the exhaust system.

Flexible vibration absorbing tube

A flexible conduit for use in a pipe system such as a vehicular exhaust system to provide a torsional or non-torsional joint between two pipes. The conduit has an outer bellows and an inner liner between which a layer of noise/thermal insulation is sandwiched to attenuate noise, resist thermal transmission and dampen vibration.

An exhaust connection coupler is provided having a flexible conduit portion, a cover made of a generally porous and flexible knitted metallic wire mesh material surrounding the conduit portion and a retainer for combining end parts of the conduit portion and cover. The cover may be constructed of a series of stockinette stitches formed in a continuous round-and-round manner in a seamless tubular configuration. The cover can be selected from a group of covers designed to be applied to the coupler, the particular cover being chosen for its weight or stiffness so as to selectively control the natural frequency of the coupler. Additionally, the loosely knitted configuration of the cover is designed to provide resistance limiting longitudinal growth of the coupler while enabling compression and angular flexibility. Further, the coupler may include one or more spacers for providing separation between the cover and the conduit portion.

Frequency-controlled exhaust bellows assembly

This invention relates to a flexible tube of an exhaust pipe for motor
vehicles. The flexible tube includes a cylindrically corrugated bellows
member(10) made of metallic material; an interlock member(20) spirally formed
and positioned with a prescribed gap from the bellows member(10), and for
absorbing the displacements due to the various motions of the exhaust pipe; a
braid member(30) for surrounding the outside of the bellows member(10); two
caps(40) for pressing both end parts of the braid member(30); two ring-shaped
intermediate members(50) respectively having one end fixed to the bellows
member(10) and the other end fixed to be overlapped with the interlock
member(20) outside of the intermediate members; and an isolating member(60)
positioned in a gap between the bellows member(10) and the interlock
member(20) to prevent the bellows member(10) and the interlock member(20)
from directly contacting, wherein the isolating member(60) protects the bellows
member(10) from abrasion and damage to prevent leakage of gas, and absorbs
the extension, compression and bending displacements. Therefore, this
invention can increase its lifetime.
