Influence of Mesh Resolution of Boundary Layer on Numerical Simulation of Full-scale Tidal Turbine

Study of this article was conducted on horizontal axis tidal turbines in a demonstration project of a 500kW ocean energy independent power supply system. Considering the depth of the sea site where the turbines would be deployed, seabed seated supporting structure was adopted in construction of two turbine units. As a typical tidal current energy resource zone in North part of China, the flow velocity of the sea area is relatively low for exploitation. In order to extract energy from tidal current with high efficiency and easy to start running, special structure of the turbines and optimized control technology should be adopted. In this article, theoretical analysis was conducted on the rotor and blades' foils of the turbine and numerical simulation on hydrodynamic performances of various turbine blades and hydrofoils was made by using software FLUENT. Then scale model tests of the turbines were performed in a flume to validate the analysis and simulation results. By adopting blade pitch angle adjusting technology with maximum power point tracking control, the turbines can easily start running in low speed current, revers blade direction and work with highest efficiency.

Research and tests on hydrodynamic performance of a seabed seated horizontal axis tidal turbine

The invention provides a snorkeling type tidal current energy generation device. The snorkeling type tidal current energy generation device comprises a snorkeling type base, two parallel stand columns, a lifting working platform and a water turbine. The stand columns are fixedly arranged on the snorkeling type base. The lifting working platform is arranged on the stand columns in a sliding mode. The water turbine is fixed to the lifting working platform. A first cabin, a second cabin, a third cabin, a fourth cabin, a fifth cabin, a sixth cabin and a seventh cabin are formed in the snorkeling type base. The first cabin and the second cabin are U-shaped cabins and are arranged oppositely. The third cabin and the fifth cabin are clamped between one side portion of the first cabin and one side portion of the second cabin. The sixth cabin is located in a groove structure formed in the first cabin. The seventh cabin is located in a groove structure formed in the second cabin. The fourth cabin is located between the sixth cabin and the seventh cabin and located between the third cabin and the fifth cabin at the same time. The manufacturing cost, the installation cost and the offshore construction cost of the tidal current energy generation device are reduced.
