In an aspect, a tensioner is provided for tensioning an endless drive member that is engaged with a rotary drive member on a shaft of a motive device. The tensioner includes a base that is mountable to the motive device, a ring that is rotatably supported by the base in surrounding relationship with the shaft of the motive device and which is rotatable about a ring axis, a tensioner arm pivotally mounted to the ring for pivotal movement about an arm pivot axis, and first and second tensioner pulleys. The first tensioner pulley is rotatably mounted to the tensioner arm. The tensioner arm is biased towards a first span of the endless drive member on one side of the rotary drive member. The second tensioner pulley is rotatably mounted at least indirectly to the ring and is biased towards a second span of the endless drive member on another side of the rotary drive member. The ring is rotatable in response to hub loads in the first and second tensioner pulleys that result from engagement with the first and second spans of the endless drive member.

Pulley tensioner for an oil wet belt drive

An eccentric pivot arm tensioner capable of automatic belt tensioning and substantially simultaneous operating range indexing during installation. The tensioner comprises a stop plate and cooperating lock plate. The tensioner comprises a pivot arm having a pivot arm member that cooperatively engages a base plate member. In a first, or transit mode, the pivot arm member temporarily engages the base plate member to put a torsion spring and thereby the pivot arm in a preloaded condition. The lock plate is engaged with the stop plate. As a mounting fastener is engaged into a mounting surface the pivot arm member is automatically disengaged from the base plate member by an axial movement of the pivot arm, thereby allowing the pivot arm to rotate and thereby impart a torsion spring force to a belt, i.e., tensioning the belt in an operating position. During the initial movement the lock plate remains engaged with the stop plate thereby causing the lock plate to rotate with the pivot arm, which automatically and properly indexes the pivot arm movement travel stop members with respect to the lock plate, thereby automatically setting a working range. As the fastener is then fully torqued down, the lock plate is fully disengaged from the pivot arm and yet fixed in position to allow full operation of the pivot arm in the operating range.

Eccentric pivot arm tensioner

A tensioner for tensioning a flexible drive means, such as a timing belt or chain, includes a pulley to contact the belt. The pulley is mounted on a tensioner arm and the tensioner arm can be rotated about a pivot shaft mounted to the tensioner by a spring. The axis about which the pulley rotates is spaced from the axis of the rotation of the tensioner arm with respect to the pivot shaft and the spacing of these axes of rotation results in the pulley moving through an eccentric towards or away from the belt when the tensioner arm is rotated. A stop is used to limit the range of movement of the tensioner arm between a desired range of movement defined by a free arm stop and a backstop. The position of the stop is adjustable by an installer. The angular range of movement of the tensioner arm is adjustable from a position suitable for installation of the tensioner to a position suitable for operation of the installed tensioner. In one embodiment, the movement of the stop from the installation position to the nominal operating position also compensates the spring.

Timing Belt Tensioner

A tensioner having a closing-type torsion spring that is employed to bias a pivot arm about a pivot shaft. The tensioner includes a damper that continuously contacts an inside surface of the torsion spring to dampen torsional vibration transmitted through the torsion spring.

A belt tensioner for tensioning the belt of a belt drive system includes an eccentric adjusting member, a pivot structure eccentrically mounted on the adjusting member for pivoting around the adjusting member, a belt-tensioning pulley mounted to rotate on the pivot structure, a biasing member that resiliently biases the pivot structure in a belt-tightening direction, and a coupling structure. The coupling structure temporarily couples the pivot structure to the adjusting member to pivot with it during a belt installation procedure, and the configuration keeps the coupling structure unloaded except for a limited period of time during the installation procedure such that the coupling structure can be installed and removed easily. The tensioner is rendered operative after the pivot structure is uncoupled from the adjusting member, thus allowing the pivot structure to pivot with respect to the adjusting member.

Steuerriemen in dem Riemen-Antriebssystem zu installieren, in der zweiten Richtung von der ersten Riemen-Straffungsrichtung weg gedreht wird, sich die Schwenkstruktur mit dem exzentrischen Einstellelement gegen die Vorspannung des Vorspannelementes (82) bewegt, und wobei das Entfernen der Struktur (34) zum zeitweiligen Koppeln die Schwenkstruktur von dem exzentrischen Einstellelement trennt, um die Spannvorrichtung wirksam werden zu lassen, indem die Schwenkstruktur (46) in die Lage versetzt wird, frei und exzentrisch um das exzentrische Einstellelement (18) geschwenkt zu werden, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Spannvorrichtung des Weiteren eine Tragerplatte (64) umfasst, wobei die Tragerplatte einen Anschlagelementabschnitt (74) hat und die Schwenkstruktur einen Last-Anschlag (78) sowie einen Anschlag des freien Arms (76) hat, und der Eingriff des Anschlagelementabschnitts der Tragerplatte mit dem Last-Anschlag eine Last-Endposition der Schwenkstruktur definiert, und der Eingriff des Anschlagelementabschnitts mit dem Anschlag des freien Arms eine Endposition des freien Arms der Schwenkstruktur definiert, und ein Schlitz in dem exzentrischen Element ausgebildet ist, wobei der Schlitz (32) und der Stift (34) eine Kopplung mit Spiel zwischen Schwenkarm und dem exzentrischen Einstellelement bilden, und die Spannvorrichtung so ausgebildet ist, dass das Vorspannelement (82) relativ geringe oder keine Torsionslast auf den Stift (34) ausubt, wenn er von der Spannvorrichtung aufgenommen ist, mit Ausnahme wenn ein Ende des Schlitzes in Eingriff mit dem Stift ist und die Schwenkstruktur mit dem exzentrischen Einstellelement koppelt und sich die Schwenkstruktur beim Installationsvorgang mit dem exzentrischen Einstellelement bewegt.
