Abstract: This paper considers the problem of designing optimal stabilizing controllers for the systems that can be modelled by the Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model. Contrary to difficult optimal control problems dealing with fixed cost functions directly, we pursue the strategy in which the cost function is determined during the design process. This approach makes the problem easy to solve and yields stabilizing controllers which satisfy the inherent robustness of optimal controllers. The design procedure of this paper consists of solving LMIs (linear matrix inequalities). The applicability of the proposed method is illustrated via an example.
