An environmental control system for conditioning air in a vehicle compartment, such as an aircraft cabin. Cool expanded higher-pressure air from a turbine is mixed with recirculated warmer, lower pressure air from the compartment. The air is mixed and recirculated by a jet pump which includes an inlet section, an outlet section, a diffuser section and a mixing section. The mixing section includes a plurality of separate mixing chambers. The diffuser section includes diffusers for receiving mixed gases from each of the mixing chambers. The outlet section receives the mixed gases which are then conveyed to the compartment. The inlet section includes for each of the mixing chambers, a primary nozzle for introducing the higher-pressure air into a respective mixing chamber, and a secondary nozzle for introducing the lower pressure air to a respective mixing chamber.

Environmental control system

A microprocessor-based air conditioning/refrigeration control system (76) adapted for use with a variable speed compressor (12) measures acceleration (N1) of the compressor and the temperature (T2) or pressure (P2) of the refrigerant exiting therefrom, determines the rate of change of the temperature or pressure of the refrigerant, and decreases acceleration of the compressor if the rate of change of the temperature or pressure of the working fluid indicates surging of the compressor. Superheat (T1, P1) of the refrigerant is maintained at a first predefined level while the compressor is operating at constant speed (N1) and is increased to a second, higher predefined level while the compressor is accelerating. The system is able to diagnose deterioration of the compressor by measuring and comparing power input (V,A) to the compressor and rate of change of temperature (T2) or pressure (P2) of the refrigerant at the compressor between initial and subsequent periods, and differentiate between deterioration of a drive component or a pressurizing component of the compressor.

Control system for an air conditioning/refrigeration system

A climate control system for a vehicle comprising a closed refrigerant system including variable speed compressor means (8), said control system further comprising vehicle operator input means (53) for selecting a desired interior temperature, ambient air sensor means (30) for monitoring the temperature of the ambient air, in-vehicle sensor means (32) for monitoring the temperature of the interior of the vehicle, programmable computer means (50) programmed to determine a set temperature value related to said desired temperature but limited to a value between a fixed predetermined minimum temperature value and a variable maximum temperature value equal to the temperature of the ambient air, said computer means (50) being further programmed to determine an air conditioning value related to the difference between said set temperature value and the temperature of the interior of the vehicle as provided by said in-vehicle sensor means and for controlling the speed of said compressor means (8) as a function of said air conditioning value.

Climate control system for electric vehicle

A heating, ventilating and air conditioning unit adapted for mounting on the roof of a bus or similar vehicle. The HVAC unit is self-contained, lightweight and provides adequate cooling, heating and ventilation to a bus passenger compartment or the occupant compartment of a similar vehicle. The HVAC unit has a unique cross-pattern arrangement of evaporator and condenser assemblies which enables air distribution from the system to function in a ducted system or a free blow system depending upon orientation of the condensers and evaporators. The HVAC unit is of compact construction and includes modular characteristics provided by the allocation of one fan to one condenser and one blower to one evaporator to enhance system performance and system redundancy. The HVAC units include diagonal symmetry of components which further improves modularity, commonality and serviceability. The unique construction of the HVAC unit enables it to be oriented in various modular arrangements so that it can be used as a single module for small or medium sized buses and as dual modules for medium to large size buses.

Self-contained rooftop HVAC unit

PURPOSE:To make dehumidifying operation accompanied by heating and change the speed of a compressor to control variably the amount of circulating flow of refrigerant passing through both heat exchangers by acting a 2nd indoor heat exchanger as a condenser and a 1st indoor heat exchanger as an evaporator. CONSTITUTION:In dehumidifying, a refrigerant from a compressor 201 is flown into an indoor heat exchanger 110 side by a selector valve 204 in the same manner as in heating. Also, a refrigerant circuit 212 is closed by a reversible electromagnetic valve 213. In addition, a dehumidifying refrigerant circuit 214 is opened by an electromagnetic valve 216. Accordingly, a refrigerant of high temperature and pressure discharged from the compressor 201 is flown into the 2nd indoor heat exchanger 110, condensed, expanded adiabatically while passing through a capillary 211 to become fog of low temperature and pressure, and flown into a 1st indoor heat exchanger 109. The refrigerant is then evaporated in the 1st indoor heat exchanger 109 and the gaseous refrigerant is flown from the dehumidifying refrigerant circuit 214 to an accumulator 215 through the electromagnetic valve 216. And, while the main indoor heat exchanger 109 acts as an evaporator to supply air, the 2nd indoor heat exchanger 110 acts as a condenser to heat air.
