In a wireless communication device with multiple radio access technologies (RATs), frame timing for one RAT may be aligned with a frame timing of another RAT so as to reduce a number of communication frames of the different RATs that overlap in time with each other. The aligning reduces the number of communication frames that are subject to cancellation due to interference. Alignment may reduce a number of transmit frames of one RAT that overlap with multiple receive frames of another RAT. Alignment may reduce a number of receive frames of one RAT that overlap with multiple transmit frames of another RAT.

Multi-radio coexistence

The present invention provides for a method and apparatus for reducing interference associated with wireless communication in an area having sensitive electronic equipment. A wireless communications device receives, from an access point, a signal having a signal strength above a predetermined threshold. The wireless communications device determines a transmission power level maximum based on the received signal and then transmits a signal to the access point at a transmission power level at or below the transmission power level maximum. The wireless communications device disables the transmission when the signal strength falls below the predetermined threshold.

Method and apparatus for reducing interference associated with wireless communication

Techniques for performing radio coexistence management to control operation of multiple radios to achieve good performance are described. In one design, an entity (e.g., a coexistence manager or a radio controller) may receive inputs from one or more radios among multiple radios operating concurrently. An input from a radio may indicate a planned operating state or planned activity of the radio in an upcoming time interval. The entity may determine controls for at least one radio based on the received inputs and a database of performance versus operating states to mitigate interference caused or observed by each of the at least one radio. The control for a radio may indicate a selected operating state or selected setting for at least one configurable parameter for the radio in the upcoming interval. The entity may send the controls to the at least one radio. Each radio may operate in accordance with its control.

Coexistence manager for controlling operation of multiple radios

Systems and methodologies are described herein that facilitate a centralized structure for managing multi-radio coexistence for a mobile device and/or other suitable device(s). As described herein, a control plane coexistence manager (CxM) entity and/or a data plane CxM entity can be implemented to directly interact with a set of associated transceivers (e.g., radios, etc.) in order to manage conflicts between events corresponding to the transceivers. Further, CxM operation can be divided between the control and data planes such that the control plane handles configuration and long-term operations such as radio registration, sleep mode management, long-term event resolution, interaction with upper layers, etc., while the data plane handles short-term operations with respect to radio event management based on incoming notifications or event requests. For instance, the data plane can evaluate a set of requested events, select event(s) to be executed, and provide responses to the associated transceivers relating to the selection(s).

Centralized coexistence manager for controlling operation of multiple radios

Techniques for performing radio coexistence management are described. In an aspect, operation of multiple radios may be controlled using a database of interference-related information, which may be indicative of interference between different radios operating concurrently. In one design, an entity may obtain planned operating states of multiple radios in an upcoming interval. The entity may determine the performance of one or more radios based on the planned operating states of the radios and the database, which may store information on performance versus operating states for different combinations of radios. The entity may select at least one new operating state for at least one radio based on the determined performance and the database to achieve good performance. The entity may send the at least one new operating state to the at least one radio. Each radio may operate in accordance with its new operating state (if any) or its planned operating state.

Control of multiple radios using a database of interference-related information

A semiconductor integrated circuit for a radio communication terminal sequentially uses a plurality of frequency channels by instructions from a hopping frequency decision unit to receive packet data by a reception unit. When the integrated circuit cannot detect the head of the packet data in reception operations, the integrated circuit cannot receive packet data should be received originally then assumes that the received packet data is a packet error. And the integrated circuit calculates packet error rates for each frequency channel on the basis of the number of times of reception operations performed for each frequency channel and of the number of times of packet errors to estimate channel qualities by using the packet error rates.

SOLUTION: In a radio apparatus which uses a plurality of channels one by one by directions of a hopping-frequency determination 1023-1 to receive packet data, a packet error is considered to have occurred as packet data to be received essentially cannot be received because of deterioration of the quality of a channel, when the top of the packet data cannot be detected during the receiving operation. When the radio apparatus estimates the channel quality of a certain channel, the radio apparatus calculates a packet error rate at each channel from the number of receiving operations and the number of packet errors performed at each channel respectively, and estimates the channel quality using the packet error rate.
